Well I'm probably ordering my lift this weekend if my tax money comes in. I decided to fork out the extra cash and put the long arm lift on it.

To the guy saying the RC kit wont fit the 242 case, its just the skid plate that they give you. The kit itself is the same, theres no reason the transfercase would make a difference in the lift. Just modify the skid plate (it says somewhere online how) and call it good. with the short arm kit your not getting a skid plate anyways, so just go long arm and enjoy a better ride quality.

Anyone running the rough country 6.5 short arm without drop brackets?
Hey guys I got my 98 Xj Friday! Traded a 97 tj and do not regret it at all! The jeep has the 6.5 RC short arm lift w out the drop brackets. It actually rides great even at 65 mph! Anyone else running this setup?

i have the long arm on my 99, i just jumped the 1000 mile mark since i put it on and still no problems. i use mine as a daily driver and i GPSed it at 87 on pretty much level ground before the straight away ended. i only ended up paying 880 for mine brand new still in the box. i found a guy on craigslist who never used it so i bought it. i dont have any problems with it at all and im running 33 12.50's, it actually took away my death wobble.

I have the 6.5 LA....I installed it at the beginning of the summer and so far have about 8k on it with several trail rides. I clear 33's no problem! You can check my build page for all the pictures.

Unless you want to tow your xj to go offroading I would stay with a short arm, the long arm kits on any brand let the axle rock side to side at faster speeds, if your not crawling stay away from long arm kits, on a short arm both upper and lower arms attach to the frame, a foot apart creating a triangular structure, on the long arm the upper attaches to the lower, not to the frame, and the angle changes putting more stress on the lower arms, not to mention it sits way back compared to where it was designed to sit, that's why I don't recommend long arm unless you tow it.

dont listen to this guy^^^ long arms drive/ride better than stock. i believe you are talking about a radiuis arm long arm setup but that setup will still drive and ride better than stock. plus there are long arm kits that are 4 link setups just like stock.
