You were expecting a totally different response when you started this thread huh? You thought a salvage title was no big deal, posted here to try and reaffirm what you thought, and it was totally shot down haha

So much win in this thread. I feel like we're being trolled.
-I wouldn't buy it for reasons already stated
-trans in neutral is NOT how you tow a jeep
-don't be so focused on a specific list of stuff and your options open up.
S**t I can buy a practically NEW XJ (rust free, 45-75k mi) around me with a clean title for that price. Your nuts man.
I just bought an XJ I'm going to use as a base for my buggy build. The ONLY two things I was after were clean title and a good body. Took me 2 months but I found the perfect one; and even sacrificed 4x4 for it. I have to swap a tranny and transfer case but for $780 who the hell cares, it's got zero rust. Even though I'm going to cut the hell out of this thing and not even register or inspect it I wanted a clean title.
I'm not against salvage titles, but only trust my own work haha.

Colorado has a few laws on my side...
A snip of the statute written over "Rebuilt from Salvage" titles in CO. The state inspects them before allowing it back on the road. Better than nothing. whats with the resale concern? Its worth a couple Gs regardless. I'm not looking to buy, to sell lol.

One last thing. This new ride you're looking at...is it also a salvage, or rebuilt title? If so, why are you so dead-set on buying a salvage vehicle...from a private dealer? If you're gonna buy salvage, buy from a private party...otherwise you're just throwing money into some dealer's pocket.
We are all just trying to help you make a good, informed decision.
That's all.

The only reason that I can see someone clinging to hope against all odds in this obviously lopsided deal is a credit issue. Is this private dealer also known as a "buy here, pay here" lot? Something similar?

I don't understand the under 150k miles,The 4.0 in the xj can run 300k if taken care of and we have a lot of members well over the 200k mark and no problems. The other thing with a older low mileage car its sat for a long time and sitting is the worse thing you can do to a car.If you try to daily drive something like that things will start to go wrong.Gaskets dry out when a engine sits so when you start to drive it they will start to leak.I rather have a high mileage car thats been taken care off with proof of it vs something low miles thats sit forever.

you'd be a fool to pay over scrap + part out value for a salvage/rebuilt title vehicle. there are a million XJs out there, find one that hasn't been railed. for starters I wouldn't trust a dealer asking 5k for that jeep knowing its history. bunch of red flags, pay heed.

As far as paying full price I wouldn't. But I wouldn't be afraid of it...he stated that they towed with the transfer case in neutral not the transmission. And he has more documentation on that vehicle than most of us with 5 vehicles . Everyone on here I've found can be some dicks about things on here and I thought we were all into the same thing...positive criticism goes a long way . None of you are professional body guys or have shows about it so why should he or want to for that matter take any advice from you. He's seeing everyone's badass xj and wants one too, now maybe not cause everyone has bashed everything he's ever said ....thanks for nothing!

Edit: it seems he's had a jeep for a while. Joined in 2011 and asked multiple questions about a 91 Cherokee.

I've had my Jeep since 2007 thanks. Easy miles back and forth to high school for 3 years, then 1 year at 40 miles a day, then a break because of a blown head gasket (yes I pulled the head and the manifolds and fixed it myself). I've replaced sensors, put it newer and/or better JY parts, 99+ manifold swap. I've had my Jeep for 9 years and put almost 60k on it and it started with 205k, plus a history of XJ and ZJ ownership in the family before I was born (well an XJ). Don't try to grease me with noob lube. And the mileage? Thats just it, I've already owed an XJ with 200k, and drove it 60k, I want to get something newer, my daily driving is going to increase more than my teens and early 20s, I'm not planning on selling my next XJ purchase...that is if I decide there isn't a bunch of egotistical misinformed A holes like Ford owners. I'll just go Xterra if I have to lol.

I just want to say.... in the original post op as it "perfect" xj......
That xj has been hit, has a bent unibody, and has been stolen.......
If something like that is perfect to you I have a grip load of perfectly worn tires I'll sell you.
