50mph and flat spots on the sand hell were lucky to get to a break in the trees on a mountain top and see for 50-60mi. like this one.

Or in a valley with a creek behind me had banks on both sides that were over 6' where trail had washed away yrs. earlier where it crossed the trail, had to winch out on other side.

This structure behind me was built in 1928 by the WPA for water storage from a spring for an old wooden fire tower and a shack both long gone.

I could never get used to all that sand and rock with no trees, creeks, rivers, animals everywhere. Trails where you have to winch yourself up and down numerous times during a full day and never cross the same spot all day. That's why my wife and I love 4 wheeling.

Amen. I share your appreciation for the environment I have to wheel in. My favorite thing is finding old historical stuff when wheelin, even though I'm not a history buff in the slightest. The trails here in New England offer every kind of terrain imaginable all in the same area.

Meanwhile if you live in Maine which is statistically between 90 and 98% privately owned land (closer to 98 iirc) then you don't get any legal wheeling places except the 2 off road parks that are a few hours away and out in the middle of nowhere...I drive through dirt parking lots after it rains, and park on snowbanks in winter. That's about it other than occasional logging roads or dirt roads when hunting

Default Silverstars

I've a stainless ladder frame and mounted 5 Silverstars, Hi Beams wired.
Very bright. Set in a fan pattern and I acutally angle down a little to put the focus up close. Sure they will beam a long way if tilted up but my real use for the light is hook ups, services, and tight manouvers at night, for that I wanted the focus closer.
In fog, useless, too much glare. Other wise they light the night on fire.
My frame and roof rack are mounted on several stock rack crossovers, my roof rails fasteners are replaced with clinch nuts so much more secure than the stock grommet system. Still sealed and no leaks there. My limb lifters provide more bracing. I used the Siverstars because I had accumulated many, the low beams burned out quickly as headlites and even with the upgraded harness. Too expensive for the life, I run Xtravisions today and get up to two years per bulb.
But I save the SilStars for the roof purpose. Power feed with heavy gauge thru twin 30A relays.
My work is in Stainless Fab so raw material is not a problem. Plus I like DYI.
If I was doing it fresh and didn't have the bulbs already, I'd go with the more modern LED system.

To be honest I'm more of a fan of other lights that aren't connected like a light bar, such as what I run a set of kcs
