im shopping around for a new exhaust.. i still have stock muffler, should i just get a new muffler? or a cat-back? only because im on a budget.. also what about a high flow cat? any suggestions?

i was thinking about just welding a high flow muffler on and maybe a high flow cat but leave the stock piping

You can get a dynomax system pretty cheap. How is the over axle pipe? If it is in good condition just get yourself a cheap cherry bomb turbo muffler. About $25 IIRC

The pipes not too bad, and due to the high lift it had to be modified, so i dont wanna order a new pipe and have it interfere with the lift

I have the flowmaster super 44 with stock pipes and stock cat. Very happy! Soon I'm gonna get a high flow cat cause the 20 year old one I'm guessing needs to be replaced soon. But yeah super 44 is the way to go. Sounds great on the I6

Any idea of what the stock piping inlet and outlet measures?

you have to have a cat per laws. You can't talk about no cats on CF.

im running 2.5 from the cat back with a super 44 and im for the most part happy with it. its loud when you want it to be but very tolerable on the street. Only complaint i have about mine is its a little ringy almost like a ricer in the high rpms. My friends dont do that so im going to blame the cat for that. Basically what im saying is either a 40 or super 44 and do something with the cat

I just put a Cherry Bomb glasspack on mine... I know most people go for the FLowmaster, I don't really have a good reason why I went with it, but it sounds AWESOME, nice low rumble at idle, but not TOO loud. I think it's kinda trashy to have a ridiculously loud muffler. Just my 2 cents.

The way you said I may just weld on a muffler or maybe a cat sounded like you were planning on running no cat. Just the way it sounded. Sorry if I mistook you.

I think he meant he was going to leave the old cat on and just replace his muffler. If the XJ is for off-road use only... you can run no cat...
