It's passed emissions, blah blah. First owner. Kinda high miles, but from what I hear XJs are bulletproof. Any opinions?

correct.
just for reference, i paid 1200 for my 96 sport 4wd with 225k. i have had to do about 300 in maintanence (but i do it myself so a shop would have cost at least triple for what i've done). that price seems kinda steep for a 2wd with an extra 50k on top of mine, but i may be wrong. it does appear to be pretty mint though. my body isn't in great shape either

KBB says the trade in value is $1399. Private party value is $2414.
I would try to get somewhere between those two figures...

Not sure exactly, haven't gotten an email back from the guy yet. Where I live, we have to have emissions, and cars won't pass with a CEL on, so that's just another pain in the *** when buying a car...

The second one is probably the more reliable choice, however it is more overpriced (relatively). You would also have to do without the power options of the first. Big difference in options between the SE and the Sport.
Here's KBB's take on the 2nd one...
Trade in - $849
Private Party - $1534
These are valuse listed in the "very good" condition category. I don't think any used car older that 3 or 4 years old can be considered "excellent".

couple more I was looking at. Looking at XJs on craigslist is annoying with all of the WJs that pop up... and the fact that they all seem to be above KBB...

Well I poured a carton of orange juice into my frosted flakes last week thinking it was milk, so what does that say about me?
By the way - If you have an iphone, the Kelly Blue Book app that I used to pull those #'s out is a free app. It's quite useful when car shopping...
Those are both nice looking XJ's. Welcome, and good luck!
