just curious, why wouldnt you drive a diesel? rather not have superior MPG and torque curves, and engine life?

I wouldn't go as far as superior engine life, diesels can get pricey towards the end (fuel pumps, turbos etc).

you mean injection pump? and a diesel turbo lasts as long as a gas turbo

plus factor in never needing spark plugs/wires/cap/rotor or coil poacks for the entire engine life

fact is, a diesel longblock will last alot longer than a gas engine before needing a rebuild. all the other stuff depends on who makes it, obviously some engine has more issues than others

True about the turbos, but most gasoline engines don't have/need one.
Injection pump, yes

I worked on Detroit Deisels in the Navy and on Charter Boats. I've been an auto tech for over 20 years and have worked on all kinds of car and light truck diesels.
-Superior milage vs cost of fuel. its a wash.
-Gas and diesel engines if taken care of both last a long time.
-If I needed a truck to haul heavy stuff on a regular basis I'd have a deisel.
-They are noisy and stinky.
-why is the EPA slow to allow import diesels? high emissions.

Again just my opinion, so please, no haters!

well you worked on Detroits, those are absolute trash

diesel is about 40 cents more expensive than 87 octane, so thats about a 12% increase in price, and youd be hard pressed to find a diesel engine that only gets 12% better fuel economy than an equivalent gas engine so no, it is not a wash.

obviously a diesel is great if you haul heavy stuff, but it will get much better mpg than a gasser unload. ie a gasser ram will get you low teens at best mixed use while a cummins will get nearly 20mpg in 4x4 trim

noisy and stinky is all relative, maybe you should get a prius since its nice and quiet and doesnt "stink" :P

europe has stricter emissions standards than the US and they have ALOT more diesel vehicles

No offence but agreed. Diesel is defiantly a big part of the future. There even starting to make there way from over seas into the smaller cars like the cruze. I'd still buy this CRD just because there awesome Jeeps. Only thing that would make them better is a 6-speed.
