Show off your tinted XJ!
I'm planning on getting my windows tinted soon. The law in NC is 35% in the front, then anything for the other windows.
The thing that sucks is I don't want 35% in the front then 5% in the back, I think it looks tacky, but then 35% all around just isn't dark enough.
Post some pictures to change my mind and persuade me don't forget to post what percent tint it is

This is my old XJ Classic. Came factory with the light tint which is 70%, in reality looks untinted. In this pic is has 5% all around, plus 50% on the windshield. Agate interior. The interior color can give the illusion of darker or lighter tint on shades 20% and lighter.

I never once got a tint ticket, but it was passed the legal limit in NY, and FL where the car is registered. NY isnt very strict on tint when it comes to passing of failing inspection, your state may be different. I went that dark because if im getting stopped for tint, the fine isnt worse for how dark it is, and in NY legal is 70%, so ANY tint you add will against code.

Here is my ZJ, it has 5% on the rear windows and 50% on the fronts. I like the way a tinted windshield looks, but I would never do it though.

Mine (the blue one) has 20% on the all the rear door windows. I have 35% on the 2 front doors. Depending on the light, sometimes you can't even tell the front 2 are tinted. I believe the stock XJ's come with 20% on the rears but I'm not sure. Here's a pic next to a stock tinted Jeep. My Jeep came with no tint. I did it all myself.

Some sweet looking jeeps yall got there.
I'm still so torn...The last thing I need is a $250 ticket on top of a $250 bill for the tint.
But 35% just isn't dark enough, and I don't want different level tints all over.

$250 for a tint job is outrageous! Is that what they are charging down there?
If the 35 is not dark enough but 20 is too dark, you're shop should be able to find something inbetween in shades. If not, I've seen people double tint their windows too. Meaning, install the 35 and use 50 on top of it. It is almost as dark as the 20% then but easier to see out of from inside. Just a thought.
If 35% is the legal limit and you don't want tickets, then it looks like 35% all the way around is your answer.

Well $250 is the absolute top dollar i'll be willing to pay. Worst case scenario, that's what i'm planning on haha. I'm not really TOO worried about being ticketed for illegal tint if i'm right around the limit, but I've heard that I can fail inspections for illegal tint :\

Correct.
Being that the factory tint on most American vehicles is 20% I would not be too worried about doing 20% all the way around or doing front doors at 35% and the rest at 20%. Having a lighter to darker tint scheme doesn't look bad either and no one will think it looks funny as many people do it to avoid trouble. Most officers can't even read back every aspect of their state laws regarding window tint, just like lift laws. The biggest thing that will keep you out of trouble is too keep from drawing attention.
Not my XJ, as I never tinted the front windows, but that is 20% on the front windows, and then 5% on top of the factory 20% in the rear. The difference isn't very noticeable and you can barely see the sky through the front windows in the picture.
