There is a product, (I can't remember it's name) that you can guy to dip tools in. It leaves a nice rubber grip type coating, & can be made several layers thick after each dries.
I have used it before on some tools & it is very durable. It would be perfect for these gutter clips. to prevent them from digging into the paint.
It comes in different colors too.

I have used that stuff before, It works great!
I am to cheep and lazy to use that stuff though. But for anyone building a rack, I would recommend it.
