so i saw the flashing lights in my mirrors...
i was on my way home from dropping off my girlfriend to her house. i was coming down a country road with a speedlimit of 45. since the massive snow storms we have been having i took off my tiny 29s and put my heavy (about 200 pounds a tire) 33inch super swampers on. i had my cruise control set to 45 and as i was going up a very steep hill a cop passed me, pulled a U turn and came flying after me. he pulled me over and said i was doing 62 in a 45. my jeep barely does 65 on the highway let alone up a steep hill with cruise on. when i tried to explain to him in a calm orderly maner that he was wrong he said "shut up or i will start writing more tickets" then he proceeded to hand me a speeding ticket and a ticket for breaking curfew and a warning for not having my insurace card (my xj is not my primary vehicle so i dont always have insurance on it) being a minor i am going to loose my lincese because between 15-20 mph over the speedlimit is wreckless driving and this is my second offence in 6 months (first i was caught in a speed trap on the highway). does anyone know how i can prove to the judge that the cop was wrong? my cruise was set and i have my speedo recalibrated for my tires and it is accurate. the cop was coming in the opposite direction of me so he was in motion while shooting the radar and i think in ohio cops cant shoot while driving but im not sure. i didnt ask to see the radar either (stupid mistake). any imput is great help!

They don't have to show the radar to ya anyway so don't worry about that. Best bet is to fight it (if you KNOW you were not speeding) and see how it goes. Being that you have been busted for speeding before then you may have a up hill battle. The no insurance is gonna bite ya in the ***. I know here in SC that is automatic SR-22 and that is something that will hurt. Think close to $600 a month. Sooooo with that being said you may want to look into public transportation.

if all he gave you was a speeding ticket. pay it.
if you just got a warning for no insurance card, try to just leave that unsaid and just pay the speeding ticket. and buy a lottery ticket.
here in ontario, no insurance is a 5 thousand dollar fine. then to get anyone else to insure you will be hard to find. then it's facility, there, it's usually 600 plus a month.
buy yourself a decent quality mountain bike. it's as fun as wheeling.

It depends on how sure you are that you weren't speeding. If the officer does not have you on radar, you're good to go - as there is no proof.
If he DOES have you on radar, it has to go on record in court. If radar says you were speeding, you're toast. If radar shows you were going the speed limit or less, you're golden.
It's not like they charge you more for your rights. Go to court and fight it.

You say that you normally have 29" tires. Are you geared for those? Because if you put 33" tires on with stock gears, and stock speedo gear, then when your speedometer says your going 45, your really going atleast 55mph.
In my XJ, which has a manual tranny, stock gears/speedo gear, and 33"s when it says 45mph, I'm really going 59-60mph.

Ok to clear things up: I'm still a minor, I know I was not speeding, I do have insurance just no card cause my primary vehicle is my Comanche but we got like 3 feet of snow and the Comanche is only 2wd so I switched vehicles. But my court date is going to be after I turn 18 so would I still loose my license?

they do have to show you the radar. also the radar has to be calibrated every like 6 months or something like that. so that radar gun could be off and that ticket would go away.

...but only upon request.
There is no reason not to go to court over this.
When more people start standing up for their rights, we will be taken advantage of less by rule-crazed cops.

Yeah yeah yeah... there are lots of good cops, doing their jobs, yadda yadda yadda. But that's why we need to keep the over-zealous ones in check. It only takes a couple meetings with the wrong officers before you have a bad taste in your mouth. Checks and balances keep them in line.
