For the money its louder and has better quality than some of the other systems in my grade that cost them 3 times as much. And i love the look of the 4 pack just laying all the way across the back but i might build a new box for it that fits better with the jeep so maybe ill have a little bit a cargo space (or even a little bit of space between the subs and the back hatch.)

Sounds pretty good. I didn't want to lose the cargo space so I opted for no sub. The Type S's have a decent amount of midbass. Looking at upgrading them though.

Engine: 4.0L upgraded charging system & blue top, flowmaster 44, hi flow cat and two core rad.
I've got Polk 5.25 speakers, 2 10" mtx subs & a 400 watt amp. I'm really pleased with the sound from the system. However my Sony headunit quit playing radio stations. I fixed it with a old headunit that works but doesn't look so good.

I think it depends on the listener. If your a quality or sound snob or if you just dont really care and want more than stock. It'll all depend.
As far as I'm concerned. If you take all the typical makers consumer line products. In the same car with the same power source. I bet you couldn't tell the difference. Not including a sub. Just 1, 2, or 3 way speakers.
The placement for speakers in the jeep are not situated very effectively.
I have a 1999 XJ. I like the speakers up high in the back the way they are. The front doors are wicked low and are not angled.
A little custom work can be done to the door speakers to have them angle up a little. And I think components up front are worth the coin. The only negative side to that is having the tweeter so far from the main. Ideally you would want them somewhat close. But considering how it's already laid out. It's not super convenient or would require more effort than I'm willing to put into it.
The rears benefit from components as well, but most people can't tell the difference honestly. So it's not really worth the extra money. But how those speakers are situated are super ideal for component because you can mate the tweeter so close to the main speaker.
I've got 6.5" both front and rear. Though with 6.5" in front came stock and 5.25 in the rear came stock.
I prefer Focal speakers for what I listen to and the volumes I like. I use to like MB Quartz before being bought out.
For head units I prefer Eclipse. High volt outputs and more outputs for more options. Sony has actually been kicking butt in head units for the past year or so. But almost everyone is making head units are neck and neck as far as features. I just don't like the interface of alot of head units.
I like 10" subs over 12" b/c i like tighter bass in a sealed box. I also value my cargo space. I've been happy with JL subs. I know there are better and pricier. But it's not necessary.
You can tune decent quality speakers and power source really well. Parametric EQ's or graphic EQ's are small, cheap and easy to mount.
Mate the right gauge of speak wire throughout. The new digital amps that are out are wicked. They dont get nearly as hot and the power stays consistent over long periods of time of use.
Mid range is the hardest frequency to duplicate. Its rather easy to get a copious amount of bass or annoying highs.
I've been kicking around the ideal of having some 6.5" or 8" speakers put into the rear passenger doors. Since you can't really cut a hole and mount. One would have to have speaker mounts made up, which would protrude into the feet space area.
The XJ seems like a ideal speaker box all together. One thing to keep in mind though. If you cross potentially high water levels. You'll ruin door speakers if water gets in the cab.

got another set of pyramids no idea were to stuff them the rear was never wired got some kicker 3.5"s im going to put in with the 6x9's

Ive got a Sony Xplod system. Unit, 4 speakers, amp & subwoofer. Not sure on all the specs because I bought it a few years ago all at once with speaker wire, odds & ins, etc., and spent just about $600 total (I think it was like $625). Im a sound snob if you will, and although not as nice as the Boston Acoustics in my truck, the Sony sounds very good, and my Jeep is used for hunting, fishing, off-roading, etc, so I didnt want stuff that was SUPER expensive. There is a LOT of stuff out there and honestly, unless you get REALLY cheap stuff or REALLY expensive stuff, most people wont notice a difference.
