Default spare tire mount

does anybody know if a tire mount from a tj would work on a stock roof rack on my xj and does anybody have any pis of it done on an xj

If you can fab some bracket it might. Don't reall think the stock cross bars are strog enough though.

They'd bounce too much....

HAHA I followed one down the road the other day and was just waiting for the tire to bounce off. He had used black rubber bungee cords (looked like 5 or 6) and they were definitely to loose.

so if i bolted the spare tire mount from a wrangler to my cross bars and bolted the tire down it would be to loose and likely fall out.

ok thanks for the advise now its back to the thinking bored to try to find another way to mount my spare outside so i can get it out of the cargo area

take the crappy roof rack off that is stock and put on a real one

i wanna but the money isnt there and i dont have a welder to fab one.

scope out the junkyards to see if you can find some yakima or thule roof racks. they mount into the stock rails and are strong enough to mount that tj spare rack to. doesn't necessarily have to be off a jeep.

good idea for the cheap.
