I love the design. Super sturdy and reliable. As someone said earlier, great defense against hitting animals like deer so you don't screw up your XJ. Jeeps don't have faces – function before cosmetics
Also don't think the camo Jeep picture does it justice. Looks better with everything on it:

I dont have a stinger but i have a pre runner bar and anything I hit it absorbs all the impact. I ran over a sign in a road block going 40, it was raining so bad I didnt see it ahead and if I didnt have a runner bar im sure that sig would have done some damage to my jeep instead it flew to the side lol it was pretty cool.

So I'll allow laughter if it gets me an answer, so get it out of your system..
I've been involved with Baja off road racing for years, and the bumper style we use reflects a different need, ie nerfing others to give them a love tap to pass, and to support a row of HID lights. That's it for the most part. It's part of the roll bar frame,,not just attached to the frame generally.
So I moved away from SoCal, bought an old XJ, and am slowly setting it up, although I'm not much of a go slow rock crawler just yet. Been eyeing which bumper to buy, and am confused at why the super tall guard I see on many jeeps. What is the purpose of this? Clearly it's not a grille or brush guard. It's not for pulling on if stuck. So....wtf, why that tube style? Thanks.....ok, start laughing

The stinger bumpers main purpose for me if to keep the deer from smashing my front end. we got suicidal deer here in VA. they see you coming and try to play chicken with you. the stinger helps me win that battle everytime. and then i get free diner

Originally they were for rollovers as everyone has stated.
Under the right circumstances they can aid you whether a bridge or getting up an obstacle.
My own opinion is they are 100% for looks. If they are helping you up an obstacle. 99% chance your rigs is not going to make it anyways, it's obviously not equipped. And if that is the only thing keeping you from an endo. Then you may want to go back to the bunny loop before you get hurt.. LOL

Stinger
Not all stingers are built for there intended purpose. They should incorporate a guild for your winch cable to run through at the end of the stinger. What this does is allows you too winch a tree or other object up in the air on one end to allow you to drag it out of the way off the trail. It’s purpose in other words is a tool to assist the winch in performing this task.
