Stinger on stock bumper anyone?

All the above purposes of a stinger bar are correct, as well as this one, if the vehicle where to roll over backwards, almost impossible, I know, but I've seen it... Anywho, if you have an exocage and a stinger, look at it from the side, draw a line between the two, and viola, it's to help protect your motor in case of a roll over, by in theory, keeping the hood from smashing into the rocks...
That being said, mounting a stinger to a stock front bumper would be completely pointless... It would provide absolutely no use in any of the above situations, all it would do is look cool and give you a false sense of security...

haha, i actually have those stickers on my xj where the trail rated badges would go if they ever put them on a cherokee, its looks like mine too, lifted white xj with a surco rack.
x50000 on the stock bumper stinger being pointless, they also make your jeep longer which would be an issue for me where i try to squeeze my ride (not just parking spaces)

perfectly put!!!
I hate it when people do exagurated stingers just for the look. If you have a sick rock crawler xj then you deserve an endo bar stinger cuz those are the only rigs that will probably be in danger of endoing. puting a fake stinger on a stock bumper is pointless. if you hit anything like a car it would rip off your bumper and dent up the front of your hood. if you hit something like a deer they you would get the deer AND your little stinger add on coming through the windshield to say hi.
save your money, get a nice bumper that you like. I wouldnt suggest a stinger just for the looks of it, instead id get a bumper that would protect my xj. but thats all my opinion

By the way, I wasn't intending to be mean, just pointing out that it's a bad idea to do anything with the stock bumper, they're weak and poorly mounted...

Well put... Kinda, without the swearing! I don't see any thing wrong with the idea, & if done right it can make the stock bumper look better! I doubt the OP was expecting a stout stinger, but more of a light bar or some incentive for the grandma in front of him to do the speed limit... Lol

the 89 4dr i got has some tubing welded to the stock front bumper to look like a stinger and its ugly. if its for looks until you get right stuff by all means go for it. best cheap way take mounts off stock bumper and weld them to any size square tube you want and then weld stinger to that. I did one like that with free material and I bashed the hell out of everything with it and it didn't budge. like a 69 demo derby tbird in my yard. i hit it at 15-20mph just to show it whos boss hahahaha. good luck on deciding what parts you want!
Here's the one I did with stock mounts welded to back first, then a tow behind bracket. it was 1/4" steel plate much stronger. some scrap 2" thick wall tubing and 2"x4" square tube. its a lil too short but it worked great for brush running.

also forgot to mention I did reinforce it to the unibody. ran from a few inches back on unibody to back of bumper to lessen twisting like a winch bumper without support.
