Well maybe the recommendations have changed? I just looked at my book again and verified that 60*F is the max temp for 5w30. My book is old though, covers 84-93. Coach

In my two 84z i use Chevron straight 30w and Fram Original orange filters. In my 291,+++ mileage black 87 with first year 4.0 I use Supertech 10w-40 and Fram original orange. In my White 96 with 4.0 and 5 speed I use Quaker State 10w-30 SUV Syn blend and a Napa 1515 Proselect filter and in my Red 99 2 wheel drive Ive kept Pennzoil 10w-30 conventional with a Napa 1515 filter in its HIGH revving 4.0 for the last 5,000+ miles. Im doing a Shell Rotella T5 10w-30 Heavy Duty engine oil change with a Napa 1515 filter in my Moms 2001 Red Cherokee for the flat tappet cam protection that a Diesel oil can deliver.

OEM filter.
Supertech Diesel 15w40 during summer
Shell Rotella 10w30 during Winter
Im in Texas so it really doesnt get that cold here. I can get away with running 15w40 year round honestly.
Edit- i dont know how i wound up on an almost decade old thread. Whoops

1085 Napa Gold, which is really just a rebranded Wix, Napa 5W30 conventional for the winter, and Napa 10W30 conventional for the warmer months. Which is just rebranded Valvoline.

Bump... for more answers. I'm actually making a log of what everyone is using so I can help make up my own mind on what to use when I change my oil next. No I'm not one of those people that does what everyone else does, but I figure on a forum that has to do with vehicles, motor oil and filters is a big topic and a lot of people know a lot about that kind of stuff. I know what I use on my Cummins and my LS1 because of data and history, but I'm not familiar with a 4.0 IL, so I'm gathering data.... I currently have a Wix and mobile 1 synthetic 10W-30 in mine. That's what the old owner used forever. If it wasnt the Wix, he used a purolator filter. I'm thinking about going the T6 route since I already buy it for my Cummins, along with my brother and step dad. Maybe we can just go ahead and buy a 55gal drum of it hahahaha.... but that crap IS expensive. I may just be better off using valvoline or castrol, those seem to be pretty popular so far... Of course, I dont need 12 quarts for the XJ like i do for the cummins, and mobil 1 syn is about the same as T6 for a gallon...
Keep those answers coming....

My buddy/old boss at the store runs the Amsoil with the Napa Gold filters in '04 Dodge Cummins. At least I think he uses the Napa Golds.
Once told me an oil change cost him about $100. That that is with his discount that he still gets.
He has owned the '04 since new and betting he has never used anything but the Amsoil.
