I got my bonus and I'm rewarding myself with a new winch. I've decided to go with the Smittybilt xrc8000. For 200 bonz more, you get synthetic rope and aluminum fairlead. Is it worth paying the extra $?

I personally say to keep the $200, wait for a problem, break, kink, etc. in the cable (might never happen) and replace it then with the synthetic and aluminum fairlead. Just my $.02, but I say unless you're into competition, re-invest it elsewhere or step up to the 10K lb-er with the difference.

Much less weight and just as strong...and as stated above much easier to deal with.

So far, synthetic is the way to go. Anyone out there have any benefits or reasons cable is better?

I have the same winch with the synthetic rope and love it. I pulled my bud in a 90 full size Bronco off some rocks over the weekend with ease.Heres a couple pics of mine. Its also alot lighter than the steel cable.
These things work great. Mine has the 10,000 lb rope on it.I'm thinking about putting my roller fair lead back on though. The aluminum one looks really cheap and small.

I just wonder about the durability of the synthetic rope vs. the steel cable, seems to me that you'd have to be really careful with the rope.
