while as HUMVEE could be worked on with a basic set of tools.

Looking at the HMMWV's independent suspension and sort of overall shape reminds me of the AMC Mighty Mite. I think it was on this forum that I read a father-and-son build thread on the thing.

Went to the dealer the other day to look at getting leaf spring bolts... Drive around the lot and look at a new JK with a RC lift on 35's. Get out and look at what all had been done and a sales guy walks up and says "Like what ya see?" I say its alright nothing to interesting and he said "Well im ready to get you into a real Jeep!" I turned to look at him, walked by him, got in my XJ, turned and floored it in the gravel lot over to the parts department and left him standing there like the ***** he is

Friend: Where'd you find all that mud on your Jeep?
Me: A trail behind the Pharmacy
Friend: I could probably make it easier than you (he has a Tundra, around 2008 model, with stock suspension, 22" rims, and lo pro mud tires)
Me: You kidding? I can do more in 2wd than you can in 4lo
You can't fix stupid, but you can pull it out when it gets stuck and laugh your *** off

Correct to all. Salad, the Jeep grille was originally a Ford design. When the military decided to combine the best features of the current three vehicles together, the Ford model was the only one with an actual grille. It had to be narrowed to fit the width of the chosen tub design.

No, I don't lick fish.
Interesting, I had read somewhere that the 7-slot grille was a ****** trademark and when the US military arranged for Ford as a production partner in WW2 they wouldn't license that bit. Just hit the ol' Wikiwacky and it seems it's the other way around like you say, specifically that Ford had a lighter stamped design instead of welded flat iron.

This seems like the best place for this...
I was in the XJ with a housemate earlier, when she admitted that she shunted it with her car the other day. Luckily she hit my tow hitch so didn't leave a scratch.
Anyway, she then got out to get stuff out of the trunk. She lifted up the hatch, which fell straight back down and smacked her on the head!

haha.... that's hilarious....
well, I don't know about it being something not to say to an XJ owner, but apparently that's something you don't want to cop to when you're sitting in said XJ

Or told her to get naked and pose. Or tell her to jump on the Jeep and pose.
