Not sure what insurance has to do with where the vehicle is disposed. They still must go through the process of chemicals, oil, etc being removed before anything else. They're going to end up at an auto recycle yard no matter what. It's up to the yard to make it available for parts or directly to the crusher depending on any value it might have.

If somebody doesn't total XJs then we wouldn't have so much fun pulling parts off them at the junkyard. I just got a D44 a few weeks ago so I'm pretty happy that one was wrecked. Another guy beat us to yet another D44 just a few days ago. We were a little bummed not to get it but the guy pulling it was pretty happy so good for him.

Not to throw water on the fire but its not like our beloved XJ's are all that rare, a few being destroyed by Hollywood is hardly a crime against humanity. I found these numbers on NAXJA 2.8mil is alot of Xj's
Production Numbers
Number of XJ's built in given year:
1984 - 93,326
1985 - 120,328
1986 - 107,225
1987 - 139,295
1988 - 187,136
1989 - 207,216
1990 - 151,230 ->1,005,756

1992 - 137,826
1993 - 144,961
1994 - 123,391

1999 - 186,116
2000 - 165,590

PDXJ, I'm aware. That doesn't mean I like seeing the ones with rare options be destroyed intentionally.
Oh, and those aren't all from the Toledo, OH plant. Those numbers include overseas XJs that we won't ever see.

Not to mention that last US spec Cherokee was build 12 years ago (I think), so the number of XJ's on the roads in the USA is probably less than 1/2 that.

Speaking of cash for clunkers, I've been told "why didn't you trade that in for cash for clunkers" my reply because this jeep will live for another 20+ years because it can and it will! Plus dying with 120xxx miles is to young to die.

So far I have not gotten this one. However ... in a way I can sort of understand why they ask. I can assume that in that business as with many others people just don't know and you have to fish for answers. On the other hand....yeah the counter jockey could just be that dumb.

I have a back seat for pretty much just scaring the $&@& outa people lol but not something to say to an Xj owner (or anyone riding passenger when wheeling) is "this is boring I wanna go home" or complainers in general. My rule is I will not take any complainers wheeling

"What kind of station wagon is that?"
----
Female employee: "what kind of car do you drive?
Me: "I drive a 99xj Cherokee, 2 door"
Female employee: "oh it's an old car right?"
----
Me talking about what I am going to do with my Jeep.
Male employee: "you shouldn't invest money on that car, I'd recommend buying a scion tc"
