If you want to lift the vehicle to ungodly heights, sure it's easier to do with a straight axle, but if you want ride quality, independent suspension wins hands down, which is why I think Jeep's going to IFS. More people want ride quality and not to jack the crap out of it. Just my .02
that being said IFS is weaker than a comparable straight axle. hence why everything bigger than the tak-4 is a straight axle also from oshkosh ie the FMTV's..

I understand exactly what you're saying but we all know real Jeep drivers, especially XJ drivers, don't care about comfort.

I'm sorry to say this cherokee people as I am one too. I work at an auto parts store and not everyone knows jeeps or cares about jeeps. So them saying is that a grand for 1991 give em a break. My co worker knows a lot about nissan's but not much about anything else. A guy walked in and said he needed a starter for a 88 trans am . (well there is no listing for a trans am in our computer) After searching on the computer for 2 minutes I went over and told him Firebird in our computer is a trans am..firebird encompassed trans am. So I will say give em a break. But EVERYONE of my co-workers calls me the jeep guy there, and any jeep related questions ALL come to me. XJ 4 Lyfe !!

and same work. true story!!!!

cowoker: Jeeps are crap, your jeep sucks...Subarus are better

Me: Jeeps will go places your subaru will never go, and I still have a bigger motor

Coworker: My subaru is faster, more nimble, and more valuable then your jeep.

Me: (Getting annoyed).. That's why your subaru is in your drive way not moving cus your $1,000 clutch is blown, and your only way to get to work is with your girlfriends JEEP, while mine has never failed to get me to work..(Added on to this) and if my cluthc blew it only costs $150, and every thing on my jeep is 10x cheaper then your $8,900 driveway ornament.

He walked off after that.
Amen

My mom's Subaru is having stupid problems after problem, currently its the cam position sensor, and she is 200 miles away from here. And she always says I should drive something nicer and more reliable. Since I have owned it, I have only had to replace a starter, o2 sensor, and a water pump. She has gotten at least $5k in repairs from the dealer, not including the time she crashed it, hail damage, and a tree branch falling on it.
I used to like Subarus. But that Forester is a POS.

I hear this one a lot: "Your car is so old".

-First off, its not a car it's a JEEP. Second, it's a 96 so it's not eligible for historical vehicle plates yet. The only reason it looks ancient is due to the fact that it was never facelifted during the period of 84-96.
