Thoughts on Preventive Maintenance
I have my 2001 cherokee now with 140k miles and the PO took pretty good care of it, but said he never had to change anything other than some breaks and oil. It was tuned up about 30k ago. My question is, would it be a good idea to go ahead and start looking at getting some things done to it like change water pump, radiator, head gasket, etc. I dont like the idea of waiting for it to go bad, and it seems as if these things will go bad over time. What do you guys think? I would like to see this thing run another 140k for me, and I would rather not wait for the thing to overheat and cause more problems.

you can change all those things you mentioned for your peace of mind especially if your xj is going to be a DD. this way you can eliminate them from the list when other things brake later on.
