Default throttle body spacer

Does anyone have a rough country throttle body spacer on their jeep, and if you do, do you notice any difference with it.

They are useless.

Throttle body spacers don't have an effect on a fuel injected engine.

On a carbureted engine, they change the size of the air/fuel mixing chamber and can alter how the air flows.

A buddy of mine put a TB spacer on his Ram. Took it off about a week later, said that all he noticed was a worsened throttle response.

Any jeep specific Google search will yield you the same results; useless.

I think four wheel magazine might've done an article where they actually dyno'ed a 4.0 with and without a spacer and had no difference.

Actually the article showed 2-3hp gain. Not much but not entirely useless.

INTAKE SHOOTOUT -JP Magazine April 2008
rwhp / rwtq '01 TJ 4.0L 5 speed manual 138k 4.56 Truetrac 35" Gibson cat back
142.3/188.0 Stock Intake and housing new paper element
150.1/192.3 Open Intake/TB

146.9/191.6 Rustys K+N cotton gauze $73 No heat shield, 'HAI' Hot Air Intake
151.7/197.9 Pacesetter F/X cotton gauze $180 No heat shield, 'HAI' Hot AIr Intake
152.3/197.3 Rock It Parts cotton gauze $119 No heat shield, HAI' Hot Air Intake

152.4/197.3 Injen cotton gauze $360 Heat Shield, step tube
152.7/197.2 Banks cotton gauze $443 Heat Shield/Enclosure
153.0/199.3 AFE Magnum cotton gauze $311 Heat shield

155.1/198.4 AEM Brute synthetic dry $362 Heat shield, TB spacer included CARB sticker
155.6.199.8 Mopar cotton gauze $359 Heat shield, steel tube, TB spacer included

Conclusion-
-stock paper element and box housing sucks
-Open element on tube, NO heat shield, shows slight gain vs. stock, 'Hot Air Intake'
-added Heat shield, better, adds +1-2 rwhp
-TB spacer, on both top performers, adds +2-3 rwhp
-I Wish they tested stock intake and box housing with No element, K+N panel element, + cowl duct CAI tube mod
-I Wish they tested with 62mm TB

I have that spacer on my 98 sport. I did notice a quicker throttle response, nothing huge, but it was quicker... I also noticed I get about 15 to 20 miles per tank farther too. I did nothing else to it but that. I have used these in the past and felt nothing, but I picked one up cheap after reading the above review that was referenced.

For 50 bucks, I'd do it again.

Actually, the article showed that the author has NO CLUE what constitutes a valid comparison test, just like most people.

There is no before & after comparison where the TB is the only thing changed. There is just a bunch of different configurations, some of which have TB spacers and other changes, and some of which have no TB spacers and other changes.

That "article" is worse than crap. Just like the "seat of the pants" dyno, it's just feeding an old wive's tale.

This link should be a stickie for all jeep 4.0 owners...

http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/en...ting-true-lies

in one of my jeeps I run a balanced, bored, ported, polished, terra roller rockers, lifters and cam, banks ceramic coated header, ceramic coated intake, hi flow water pump, hi flow housing, screaming demon ignition, coil, wires, hi flow radiator, 7 qt oil pan, 62 mm throttle body and intake bored to match the throttle body, etc.... But no spacer...maybe I should add one...

Depends on the engine. There's a set of spacers for my Subaru's boxer that have been shown in third party testing on a dyno to add anywhere from 9 to 19 whp, depending on who tested it and how the car was tuned. I'm not sure why it works on my Subaru and not on the Jeep, but of course that's a drastically different engine design. The point is that it's not accurate to say they don't work on any fuel injected engine.

Its no different than adding a cold air intake, Small gain if any you will never notice save that 50$ and put it into something better. (this coming from a guy with a cold air intake)

My apologies. I was thinking specifically the 4.0, and I didn't add that detail when I should have. Thanks for correcting my post.
