Default tires!

Hey hows it going? I can't make up my mind on what size tires to get! My 96 has 5 to 5.5 inches of lift and I plan on getting the bushwacker flat fenders to open then fenders up a little! Any way I am thinking about going with a set of maxxis bighorns in either the 33-12.50 or the 35-12.50s they will be mounted on either a 15x8 or 15x10 steel wheel with 3.75 bs! So what do you guys think I should do? I was also waundering how 35s would be with 4.56 gears!

heres pic of how my jeeps sits now! Those are toyo mt 33-10.50s by the way!

Default GO 35

I think you are more likely to wish you went 35 when you do 33 than the other way around. You should do great with 4.56 on either tire size.

On that backspace, they should clear fine when turning and what not. The biggest downside, IMO, is the 35s are harder on axles and steering components. What kind of terrain you wheel, how heavy your right foot is, whether you are locked, etc should be considered.

On 5-5.5, I think either size will look good, so no worries there

yea i was thinking 35s cause your fender wont start til about the top of where they are now so almost 2-3 inches extra fender clearance. And 35s on 4.56s woud be like 30s on stock gearing i would guess (no real experience) so you should be just fine. Ie not worth paying to bump up to 4.88s if you already have 4.56s i wouldnt think. either way post a pic of the update in this thread when you make your choice so we can all see. Nice jeep btw.

I have't geared the axles yet but will be really soon! So I should go with 4.88? Do they make 488 for the dana 30 and 29 spline 8.25? Also with 5 inchs of lift and bushwacker flat flares or even the cutouts do you think I will have to bumpstop like a mad man! Or even add another inch of lift the jeep?

say with 4:56 you can get 4:88s but its weak in the dana 30 housing and may lead to issues with blowing up rings or pinons forgot what fails on the 30 wtih 4:88s more. Also with 35s I'd do some sort of a truss on both axles for some added sthrenght along with a new steering system on the 30

Heavy right foot and a stock carrier with lower gears in the dana 30 (and the 30 in general) dont mix well.

Its expensive but narrowed 44 fronts are the way to go on rigs that see alot of action

On the Dana 30 if you do 35s go with a Dana 44 or replace the axle shafts with RCV performance shafts. About 1000 bucks and then do an axle truss.
Should fix you up just fine for 35s on a Dana 30
