I still use all my dads tools. Nearly all Craftsman/Husky, but there are some Snap-on, Matco, and Mac in there. You really can't beat sears/home depots warranty, I'm organizing all his tools and I just went and exchanged a ton of broken ratchets and sockets Sears didn't ask any questions, Home Depot just wanted to know what specifically broke for a "return reason". On the other hand my dad has a broken Snap-on ratchet that they refuse to warranty because it has a couple hammer marks on it and it's "too old." (SL710 so early 70s model) I'm in the process of finding a Snap-on dealer local that I can order a rebuild kit from. To be honest, I'll probably buy Craftsman/Husky when the time comes, the warranty is great, and the tools are pretty good quality. The only times I've broken stuff is with an over sized breaker bar.

Its like buying a car for much more than another, beacuse the expensive one has cupholders.
All above are my opinion..

I use craftsman for most of my tools. I have a bunch of deep sockets and a bunch of extensions that are Stanley, and they are pretty darn good. Power tools I use DeWalt... excellent brand. Bostich (stanley) for nailguns, the best bar none.
Makita and Ryobi are pretty good power tools too.
Same here. Nobody will ever convince me that other brands are worth that much more when Craftsman is Made in USA, has an unbeatable warranty, does everything that brand "X" does and has a great reputation dating back 90 years. Plus you can find a Sears anywhere.

If youre using your tools to make $100 bucks an hour, sure, youre not going to care about spending more money. But honestly, when you have a 100% return warranty on them, there is no reason to NOT use them, ESPECIALLY when theyre less expensive.

I an a mechanic at Chrysler Jeep Dodge and I use a mixture of Matco, Snap On and Cornwell tools. My majority of tools though is Matco. One of the main reasons I use these tools is the fact that they come to me when I break a tool or need to add another tool to my collection. In my industry I need my tools at all times and I rarely have time to go to a store to get something replaced. All I have to do is my hand my broken tools to my tool dealer and he goes out to his truck and replaces them or rebuilds them no questions asked. I also use these tools because they make the model specific tools that I need for certain vehicles as well.

Update on this, after some minor effort chatting with Snapons online customer service they gave me the option of sending me a repair kit or replacing the whole ratchet with a new model (wow!) but not wanting to be greedy, and figuring it's a cool old tool I asked for the repair kit instead. Got it in the mail a week later and all is well.

Also there was an old KD Tools ratchet that was broken, so I contacted that company as well, they told me the model was discontinued and they would send me a new Armstrong brand ratchet. Got it today, it's pretty nice.

So it seems to me that most companies that have the "lifetime" guarantee really mean it. It's just a little less convenient than Craftsmen/Husky I.E. walking in to a local store and getting new stuff right away.
