Thinking about trading my 98 Xj 4.0L 4wd with 190k miles for a 98 ZJ 5.9L 4wd with 155k. My XJ has a minor loose wrist pin noise and could last 2 months or 2 years. Also has a 4.5" lift with other small upgrades. The ZJ is pretty much stock and all that's wrong is it needs a timing chain cover gasket replaced. I need opinions.

I could spend 650 on putting a newer motor in the XJ, or trade and spend that money towards lifting the ZJ. I'm torn

But I am also more XJ-obsessed than most people, and I am really biased against grand cherokees.

I agree. I absolutely love my XJ. I've been driving it everyday for 6 years. It's starting to feel like an 1 Abram tank. I like the sound of a little more comfort. What's so bad about the ZJ's?

Since its a rare 5.9 I say go for it. You can always get another XJ. I would do it for the experience and I like a ZJ lifted, XJs more but fond of a nice ZJ.

There were only about 14,000 5.9 ZJs built, they're pretty rare. My vote is for the ZJ. Drive it and you will love it.

If you want a hardcore off roader keep your xj,If you want a nice daily driver that can take off road get that zj.The zj will be a little harder on fuel but will ride smoother on the roads and is a little bigger so more cargo room also.

sounds like you would make out better if the guy is stupid enough to take a xj with a motor problem for a 5.9. Shame its on those ugly wheels but whatever. I love my 5.9, only thing that sucks, is every thing zj is more expensive, so do it while gas is cheap. 242 mod is best one to date...

It truly all depends on what you're looking for in a vehicle. I have a close friend with a 98 ZJ with the 5.9 and I love that thing. Rides nice, tons of power and all the bells and whistles. I wouldn't do much off-roading with it though. I say ZJ all the way and keep your eye out for another cheap XJ and have some fun with another build!

Thanks all. I would definitely lift it. I couldn't leave it like that. And yes it would be a straight trade.
