Haha. Still half the price of a loaded Rubicon... that's what I tell myself to make myself feel better. I still want an internal/external roll cage, A rear tire carrier, To finish my front 44 and some steel fender flares... (forgot my flares on the list lol) that's about it. Then Im done till something breaks.

Now to drive 20 minutes to the office we need heated leather seats and an caramel flan frappuccino.

I got mine in October of 2011 with 106,000 miles on it. A client of mine gave it to me because it wasn't running and she just wanted it out of her driveway. I replaced the fuel filter (WIX: $15) but that didn't help so I came here, created an account and started asking questions. Everybody said CPS so I went to AutoZone and got one ($28). That fixed it and has been working perfectly for the last 27,000 miles. I added up my receipts for this thread and I've spent $2,347.38 on parts and fluids (oil and antifreeze, not gas) including all maintenance, five new wheels and tires, shocks, 3" lift, all axle seals, control arm bushings, brakes, light upgrades, hoses, belts, alternator, spark plugs and wires, new ground cables, battery and battery cables, new door seals, u-joints, valve cover gasket, trans filter, Lube Locker diff gaskets and three registrations and one smog check.

My XJ costs me about $81 a month to own and maintain but despite all the things I've done, many by choice, not necessity, my cost per mile is $0.087.

love how you didn't touch on the safety features. have you ever crashed one of these things? not pleasant
yeah we're a bunch of creature comforted yuppies. but lets face it. not everyone is a college kid who can look passed the dumptruck like ride quality of most XJ's, the falling to pieces interior, ancient electronics. need I go on?

to each their own. if you're even considering getting rid of your Cherokee it's probably not the vehicle for you

I love my Cherokee and it's my second one. After my first got totaled, it took me almost three months to find this one. I have never kept up with just how much I spend on it. As with any vehicle that I have ever owned (and my other vehicle is a 1976 Dodge Power Wagon - and I've had it for almost 17 years now), they cost money to keep running. I won't own a vehicle that I don't like. I really enjoy my Cherokee - so cost of ownership isn't a real concern.

Something that hasn't been mentioned.

What about the education, skills, stretching your abilities?

That is value added to the equation. What would that cost at a college and wouldn't be as useful?

I started keeping a spreadsheet to track expenses on my XJ, needless to say I gave up on maintaining that spreadsheet after I really started spending the $$$ on it. Let me just rattle off a list from the top of my head...all costs approximate

New freeze plugs, mainfold gasket, radiator and coolant......................... $220
New spark plugs, wires, dist. cap & rotor & air filter................................. $70
New washer pumps............................................. .................................. $30
CCV repairs........................................... ................................................ $12
Interior LED conversion & reverse lights............................................ ...... $90
CD player............................................ .................................................. $170
New drivers seat & covers............................................ ......................... $360
ZJ Disc Conversion & supplies / gear oil............................................... ... $340
FST T-case linkage........................................... ..................................... $60
Nates4x4 winch bumper & Superwinch LP8500...................................... $900
Zone 3" Lift Kit w/ new OEM shackles.......................................... .......... $530
IRO LCAs and track bar............................................... ........................... $380
New wheels & tires (after selling old & Craigslist finds)............................. $250
Bushwacker Flat Flares............................................ ............................... $370
Monstaliner bedliner kit............................................... ............................ $150
New bumpstops......................................... ............................................ $50
Detours rear tire carrier bumper............................................ .................. $950
ZJ tie rod conversion (all new parts) .................................................. ..... $120
Replacement steel & misc supplies for rust repairs.................................... $100
Off-road recovery kit (D-shackles, ****** block, tree saver, etc).............. $80
Rotella T6 & Napa Gold oil/filter change............................................ ........ $50
10" LED Light Bar............................................... ..................................... $240

Crap.....that's $5,282 worth of junk! In the past year. Not counting tools! My original estimate was off Guess I can update my spreadsheet now, lol.

I guess with purchase price (actually $3k with trade-in) and all that included, $8522...I've put about 4k miles on it since purchase....$2.13 per mile haha

I am probably at about 20c per mile w/-160,000 miles under me. Granted most of it was bought in while I was in Iraq. I would get a day off and spend hours looking at parts and ordering like crazy. Got home to an entire garage full of XJ parts. Slowed down a lot since then but still order something probably once a month. I forgot all kinds of stuff on that list though... lol.

I try not to keep track of this stuff, but sitting around with a friend I did a rough estimate. In my $300 xj, I probably have close to $9k sunk into it... I'm sure it's more, but it makes me feel better to think I'm under the $10k mark. I've owned it for 4 years now and I don't regret a single cent.

After reading back it seems I didn't relate knowledge to having monetary value though...I wish we could all compare how much actual blood and sweat we've put into these jeeps hahaha
