Trying to make removable doors on my '98 Cherokee
I I been doing a lot of research about people taking their doors off on their Cherokee. I've since mixed opinions on it and some disadvantages. The biggest problem people say they have are the doors sag and then the bushings go bad, and never a perfect seal..Some people just cut the hinge pin and then use a bolt. I've also saw people weld a bolt onto the door hinge which makes it a one man job taking them off, but they have saggin on there doors.. My problem is my Cherokee is my everyday vehicle that I need and rely on. I don't wanna ruin my door, my carpet and my floor from rain and rusting away.
I found this. From what I see it comes with bushing, hinge pin which to me it's removable with that little e clip am I right? This would make your doors fit back to normal and be able to remove them.

What do you all think? Would this solve the problem? And help everybody go doorless? I wanna do it to mine so bad but I wanna get everyone's opinion because I need the door to go back on just like it was befor I took it off. ( Well as long as its sealed from the rain!)

if that pin and bushing fit into the existing pin hole damn near exactly on the door hinge it should work real well until that bushing fails. from the couple guides ive seen on having removable AND replaceable doors they always cut the bottom part of the door side hinge off, which makes it not seal properly because it can shift vertically.
my plan (eventually) is to grind off the pin and then replace it with something easily removed ( like in your link but without the bushing(s)) sure it might be a pain in the *** getting it lined up but thats what i have wheeling buddies for.

I just did mine today and I have to say, it was actually VERY easy. I thought it was easier with the newer hinges than the older ones.
heres' the write up I used:

I did the modification to make it a one man job to remove the doors and it was definitely worth the extra work. I used a larger bolt so I could remove the bushings. It closes just like it used to.

No all I do is unplug the door wires and lift the doors off. I only removed the bushings from the jeep side of the hinge. On the door side of the hinge I drilled out the hole to the diameter of the bolt I used.
Usually with the 97+ cherokees you have to use a quick release pin or cotter pin, but that means you need two people to remove the door. So, I followed a writeup over on jeepforum which basically said to put Grade 8 M10 1.5 bolts through the hinges, weld the head of the bolt, then cut the upper hing bolt to about 1/3 the length so that you can get the door on without hitting the pillar. The bolts need to be long enough to where when you can cut off the bottom section and be left with no thread.
