Smile tube doors, building and possible sales.

hey guys,

Soon I will be making tube doors for my cherokee. And after I build my set I was considering making more sets and selling them. I have noticed that there is an definite interest in them on this forum. Im going to be making them out of .120 wall tube and will using an actual XJ door latch so it will close and latch very securely (instead of the questionable gate latch I've seen people use). Im not 100% set on one design but they will be close or the same quality as the Warrior Products doors.

So far the plan is for front doors only, but if somebody really wanted a full set I'm sure I could do it. When I build mine I'll post pictures so product quality can be seen.

What would any of you be willing to pay for a set, I've seen some sets at $300+? that seems way too steep for what they really are (tube, a latch, and some pins).

Also, would you want mirrors on them or not?

Painted? Bare metal?

Also, if I'm just way off base here let me know. Just trying to make some extra money for my jeep build and meet the needs of other XJ owners that may not have welders & benders etc.

and yes I am open to shipping if needed.

I'd be interested in them in bare metal, if the price with shipping isn't too bad. And if you make a 2 door version.

I think 150+ shipping is fair, I'd be willing to buy a set. I'm also a garage builder and seller, I'd support you! Ik jeeptubes.com sells pre bent kits for tube doors as well without the latch.

I'd love to make these for a 2 door as well but I don't have one around to use as a jig, if I can find someone local that would let me use his/hers for fitment I'd do it for sure, so I'll get back to you when I figure that out. Unless there is a way to make really good measurements and build them that way?

It does depend on the material cost a bit but from what I've gathered I think that $150 + shipping will most likely be the price point or at least close to it.

I want to design the door with a push pin to actuate the latch, so it is easy to get to it from the inside or outside and is still good and secure.

Also, do you guys think some kind of velcro on storage pocket for the inside would be a nice option for the door? I'm pretty handy with a sewing machine and I've thought of making one for my doors. lemme know your opinions on this or any other ideas you guys would like to see.

thanks for the input guys.

The option to have the inside of the tube doors with sheet metal to make them more of sealed or protective tube door then you could do anything from riveting pockets on the inside or holsters for a pistol to molle strap pannel for custom pouches and what not.... would be a cool option/addition

I like tube doors since I have fallen out of my jeep before on the trail. And also my wife rides with me most of the time and she likes the security of a half door of some kind. plus if they are built well I think they look pretty nice.

as for the sheet metal panels thats a pretty good idea.

How the hell did you fall out lol? If I was falling out all the time I would
1.) buckle up
2.) buy a harness set up.

That's what seat belts are for. You're lucky you are still around to post this.

It was more of a freak accident, I forgot to buckle up one time when I hopped in my jeep to move it for a photo-op. I was more falling out and caught myself, didn't really completely exit the vehicle. Everybody forgets now n then. Also, when I moved to California I was stopped by Highway Patrol and was informed that I needed doors. Basically the way they explained it unless your vehicle was manufactured to have removable doors (wrangler, CJ, older land cruiser, etc) you need to have them. I asked the officer if tube doors would do, and they said as long it is some kind of door it was ok.

Also, if you don't like tube doors than I'd kindly ask you to un-sub and leave the rest of us to it.

Would like more of a rounded design not something blocky , personally I'd like a skeleton one without any fabric or pouches . Also around $150 is a good price

I'm definitely in. I don't need anything fancy, just the tubes and latches.

question is, are you going to support the newer Cherokees, 1997+?
