150 seems pretty reasonable to me. I personally like the fabric stuff that comes with the warrior doors and would rather not have the sheet metal.

Shipping will not be cheap. I am sure you will have a tough time selling enough to make a living.

Well, I've spoken with my local USPS and they said the shipping would not be too bad as long as I send it Parcel Post, it takes a few days longer but size/weight effect the price less. Also, I'm not trying to make a living off of these or anything else that I make, I'm Active Duty Military so I make a living already. I'm just pretty good at fabrication and figured I'd help get people get some stuff they want and earn a few extra bucks for my jeep build.

As for supporting the 97+ or 2-Door jeeps that all depends on when I can get a test subject for each. Once I can get a set made for each of them then I can build a jig so I can keep producing them without needing the jeeps present. So if anybody is near me and wants a set of these doors made I need a 97+ candidate and 2-door candidate.

When I was stationed in FL there was a large local group of jeep guys that I helped out alot. Bumpers, sliders, roof racks, suspensions (long arms), quarter guards, skid plates, you name it.

I'm planning on building some myself, do you know where to get latches at? I have looked, but without seeing them it's kinda hard to know what you're getting. I was thinking the paddle style latches like they use on soft doors for wranglers, just don't know where to get them...

BTW, where did you get pulled over? I recently moved back to Cali as well, and see you're not that far from me, never heard of anyone getting pulled over for being doorless out here, and did the chp cite the vehicle code? Would like to see that one in writing....

As for the latched you are talking about Ive seen them on amazon made by bestop.
Bestop 51251-01 Paddle Handle Set with Rotary Latch for 86-95 Wrangler YJ : Amazon.com : Automotive Bestop 51251-01 Paddle Handle Set with Rotary Latch for 86-95 Wrangler YJ : Amazon.com : Automotive

I plan on using OE manual cherokee door latches. I helped a friend make a set of half doors using these latched and they keep the door from chattering at all and also give it a good solid clamp when you swing the door shut. plus if you really wanted you could lock the tube door (not thats its needed, but hey why not right.)

I was pulled over on the 14 freeway near Edwards AFB by a CHP officer. I think he pulled me over for more than the doorless issue since I had no mud flaps, no mirrors, no fender flares, all camo paint job, and a LOUD exhaust. he never cited any codes just rambled on about the doorless thing being unsafe and complaining about all that other stuff even tho it is registered in FL. He seemed pretty ate-up but didn't ticket me so I just said "Ok, officer I'll get all that stuff fixed." and went about what I was doing.

let me know if you ever wanna do some kind of work day or something, I like helping fellow XJ drivers.

You've definitely got my attention. I would really love a set. I have a 00 though. For 150+ shipping I would definitely be on your list. The only thing that's slowing me down on going doorless is that I'd like some tube doors to have some kind of security. More for passengers, not myself. Keep us updated. I would for sure let you use my 00 as a guinea pig for the 97+ crew if you were close by

Shipping steel isn't as expensive as you'd think. I order 50+ lb orders from fab sites fairly often and shipping is rarely more than $10.

Pretty sure my sliders were like $75 to ship. The package was like 5ftx3ftx6in though.

Here's another question, if powder coating was an option for the doors in a variety of colors would you guys be interested in that?

If so, at what price?

I'll be working on the doors this weekend, just figured I'd ask since I've got access to a Pcoater too.

Powder coating is very inexpensive so the charge shouldn't be a lot, extra 10$ i suppose... get someone with a 97+ cuz i want a pair!

I'd prefer bare metal. That way a prefect match touch up is just a spray can away

I know that the newer (97+) doors are an almost direct swap to the older xjs IIRC. Correct me if i'm wrong, but whatever you build would be fairly universal across all the years, right? And yeah, i'd be fairly interested in a set of 4. Planning on selling my CJ so I'm gonna miss the open air driving!
