Default Vin # reading

Hey guys first post. Just picked up my first Jeep. 87 Chief Cherokee 4 door for 500 dolla (make u holla). Its in decent shape with factory tow package from the looks of how its mounted. I have been hearing/ reading the different options that came on these jeeps and am getting a bit confused. Is there a website that I can plug my vin into to get the factory options list or does anyone know how to read vins?

I don't know about one that old, but you could contact Chrysler for a build sheet of your car based on the VIN you provide them with. Just let them know you're requesting the factory options/build sheet in the comments section.

A Chrysler dealer could probably do it for you as well.

I was told that my '88 was too old. I believe that they're available for 20 years.

If it is that's junk. I went straight onto ford input my vin on my 83 and it gave me everything. Even what the original owner paid for it

I might be wrong about the 20 years. I was thinking it had something to do with Chrysler's acquisition of AMC. Maybe they didn't get AMC's records.

And then I read this post:

This sucks lol. I pulled the door panel on the front passenger side today and it had the original interior build sheet thingy in there from the factory I thought that was a awesome find. Might just start pulling other stuff off randomly lol

Well I emailed 'jeep'(chrysler) they said that for a fee their historical department may be able to help. When I get the money i'll pay and see what they come up with and post if its worth it to other jeep owners on here!

You may also want to check Scribd.com I was able to find a parts catalog as well as a factory repair manual for my 93 ZJ. For a $5 fee, you can download all you can find for a day....and those manuals have the interior codes and all the other ID numbers listed in them.

So weird you guys are getting charged for this. It takes 2 minutes, just go into the dealership and ask someone face to face. It's always easier to give someone the run around over the phone. Give me the #, I'll walk across the street to the dealership and get it for u lol!

Well my jeep is not a jeep its an amc jeep. The dealership your refering to doesn't have my vin in their system since amc was bought after mine was built
