Mounted the rack and pulled a trailer moving myself from NYC to Traverse City Michigan. She worked like a champ. Now, to find the trails in Northern Michigan... any suggestions from fellow Michaganders?

pretty straight forward (mine's a 242 select trac) Also had the use of a rack (my neighbor owns a muffler shop) and a helping hand.
Remove rear driveshaft at rear pinion (5/16" socket) Tape the u-joint
so the caps don't fall off. Remove the drive shaft.
Remove front shaft from t-case (5/16" socket). Take note of any hardware you remove, so you can put it back. Push it forward and to the left, letting it rest on the cross member.
Remove the cables and hose from the tc.
Remove the 6 nuts holding the case to the trans, using a 9/16" wrench.
I bought a rachet wrench for this, no room for a socket. You'll have to lower the cross member to get to the top 2 nuts (I reached over from the drivers side). Make sure to brace it, use a jack for this. That way you just jack it back up, once its ready. I had a helping hand holding the tc while removing the last nut, and removing and installing the t-case.
Reverse to install.
Before driving - make sure to go over and make sure all nuts, bolts etc are tight.
Hope this helps.
side note: make sure the front shaft is out of the way when putting the crossmember back. I had to lower it again and just set it back in its
location on the tc/

Got my new speakers in! OMG it soundz so g00d!!!!! Oh, who am I kidding? I'm almost positive I installed out of phase. It sounds like trash lol. Tomorrow, round two: polarity testing.
This is what my thermostat looked like when I pulled it out
Also broke the transmission cooler quick disconnect. Easy fix with some 3/8 metal tube and 3/8 trans line.

Out with the bad, in with the new. That thermo looks done, a good thing to get out of your XJ. Consider a trans cooler while your working on it? Keeping the tranny cool will help it live for another 230K.
