I used one from a S-10 with a 4.3 when mine went out. A lot of our parts, as much as I hate to say this, are Chevy and Ford style components on the Renix systems. When Chrysler acquired AMC, to keep costs down, they kept a lot of the same components.

my build thread ^
so im only 17 so dont have all that much funds. but just got a new really good paying job so things should progress.
got about $700 into the turbo kit and everything. engine has 220k miles on it lol. soo with the turbo didn't expect all that much.. since i havnt gotten my paycheck yet im running stock injectors and map sensor, and no intercooler. i got an IC, but dont wanna add too much hp until i can get some bigger injectors and map sensor. probably a 2 bar. there aint much room for the IC so i could put it on top of the engine and have a hood scoop. but at low speeds intercoolers arnt the best. sooo ill probs sell it and make up my own meth/water/alcohol ghetto injection kit. simple as possible. just to keep temps down and for better throttle response and hp. but man i took this thing out for a test and you can just wait for it to spool, and spool, then whooooooosh just takes off, then the wastegate opens at 8 psi. open dump. only runnin a 2.5in downpipe to stock exhaust. BOV works great too. still gotta install my turbo timer so i dont fry the bearings, and might put on my MBC. (manual boost controller)- for boost noobs also built a brace for it, this thing is solid!!!

To all the people who dont know. All you need to correctly run a Turbo on a 4.0 before 97 is a GM 2 bar map sensor and bigger injectors. The 2 bar will help the computer with the boost. The injectors shouldnt be hard to figure out.

There are threads from back in 06 on pirate where people turbod their 4.0's and havent had a problem with them.

I plan on doing a turbo but I dont have the money at the moment.

Shouldn't there be some head work done to handle boost?? Or is the amount of boost not enough to worry about blowing the engine?? My xj is a '00 with SRT4 injectors, if there was a safe way to boost it without major engine modification I'm totally down for giving it some more ummmpfff!

Boost is all about timing. For anything under 9lbs of boost timing is all you need. Most turbo jeeps only run 7 or 8lbs of boost. With just the 2 bar and injectors. Most dont run an intercooler either.

For about 700 you can do it. Most spend over 1000 because they do ALOT more stuff. But for the basic run of the mill turbo you dont need head work to run it. Will it help? Of course it would. Do you HAVE to do it or your engine becomes a bomb? Nope.

I can tell you more in PM's. Or point you to some people who have been running turbos for a good number of years.

sure, no problems at low CFM's. the map sensor will only change the injector pulse width.

but, running any type of decent power increase with stock timing, stock computer control, stock fuel pump is just asking for problems.

sure, toss some of these LOW budget jobs on a dyno with just a 2bar map sensor. the power increase is pathetic. pushing all that air through a stock motor with stock ignition timing, and no intercooler is not a way to make any sort of power.

do the job right the first time and dont be a cheap ***
