I'm also curious as to how long one can actually drive a 4.0L (2001) with bad rings. I figured it was only a few hundred miles, but I've driving almost 1000 miles since I bought (and then discovered) that I had a bad motor (cycl. 1 rings being the most likely problem after extensive reading and checking).

Oh well. Back to work, gotta earn that money to pay for that new motor!
You can check the Evap canister near the fuel tank for evap leaks also the Gas cap has been noted as the culprit for small leaks, just FYI.
As for your rings have you done compression checks on the cylinders? If they are bad replacement is not that bad. I believe most will agree even if you have the "bad" (crack prone) head replacement is much cheaper than a new motor.

Made a water pump inlet tube.

It is all brass and it can be installed without having to remove anything. Just have to heat and bend the old one, unscrew it out.. then fasten this one in place with some rtv hi temp thread sealant. Also have a longer heater hose to use since the brass one I made is half the size of the old one.

Replaced my water pump a few months ago and at the time reused the old inlet tube when I should have replaced it with a new one while it was off.

Id rather have this brass one though anyways so I guess it worked out

today, nothing special, but I painted the ugly oxidized trim but only the straigt piece between fenders. I used semi gloss black rustolium. I think I'll prolly do the bumper end caps and the rear quarter trim as well just so all the crappy grey oxidized plastic will look half way decent

I've only had the Jeep for a month. Tuesday, the tail pipe broke and was dragging. I picked up a new tail pipe and muffler & replaced it this afternoon while the weather was nice. Good thing I picked up the muf too. It was rusted through.

Fixed my windows!! The plastic around the cable snapped off causing them not to work.

Was putting it off for so long, finally had the cash to drop on them!
