Got the plugs and valve cover gasket in tonight. Not too bad- not hard, but not real easy either.
The valve cover is pinned tight between the upper radiator hose and a large nut near the firewall that holds a ground wire. Took some fandangling to get it out. The $32 rubber gasket is quite a piece, it has a metal core. It comes with all the grommets, and you re-use the metal grommet inserts. It is about impossible to overtorque it, as you just tighten each bolt down until you feel the bolt contact the metal insert.
Took about the same amount of fandangle to get it back in place, but in all not bad. This is the first Jeep 4.0 I have taken the valve cover off of. Was amazed to see how big the rocker arms are on this engine!
The plugs were relatively simple. Unbolt the coil pack, and take out the old plugs. Gap the new plugs and put them in, replace the coil pack. It is hard to see and position the coil pack to make sure the boots get over each plug, even with a lot of lighting and flashlight. Just took my time to make sure it was right. The original NGK plugs looked good, the gaps were worn to .045 from the .035 spec over 80k miles.
It fired right up, and runs smooth as ever. Plenty of pep with the new Bosch plugs. Drove it for an hour, and it looks like I got the valve cover oil leak solved. Discovered the front differential pinion seal has a bad leak when I went underneath to pick up something I dropped. Guess I have some more work to do

I started to replace my cylinder head because I thought it was cracked and found that I had a broken push rod and a dead lifter instead.

Well. . . last weekend (i forgot to post) I got my windows tinted.
20 over 35 on all the back windows and just 20 on the fronts.
Looks good. I also did my headunit. christ that black piece is a ***** to get back on.
And today, I took my front grille off and headlight garnishes? and sprayed them black. turned out really nice.
Maybe next weekend I'll throw my wheels and tires on.
I have all 4 with BFG ATs
