If your MJ is Metric Tonne equipped, likely a D44. If it has the towing package with 3.73 gears, likely a D44.

Is there any way to know if has the metric tonne package? Previous owner never said anything.
(I mean other than taking a close look obviously, VIN or something?)

**Used google, found decoder.
Missed the towing package part of your post lol.

Not a metric tonne by vin, maybe someone accidentally slapped a D44 in there at the factory, or maybe I'm blind.

Very nice! I have a D35 in mine, but 96xjclassic is helping me build a D44 for it.
