I mean I kinda understand. I just don't see how its a pain.I dunno much about the 242. But I love the ability to throw her in 4wd at 50 mph. Dunno if the 242 affects that though But to each his own. If you went through the work enjoy it.

The 242 you can throw it in 4h at any speed under 55mph but for 4l you have to be going about 2-5 mph or risk some damage. I just wish it was easier and cheaper to do SYE on the 242

Im uneducated on the 242. What is the difference between the 231 and 242. From what you told me its the exact same. I can put my 231 in 4h under 55. And 2-5 with 4 low

I can't imagine I'm much more educated other then 231 only has 2h-4h-n-4l and 242 has 2h-4 part time-4 full time-n-4lo

4 full time can be used for everyday driving, snow, rain, etc

4 part time I believe is only for low speed offroad type conditions

And 4lo is just for low speed crawling

So you get one more drive mode with 4 part time.

Full time 4x4 is the only difference, and you can drive In 4 hi on any wet/ loos surface at any speed up to 55.

Basically full time in the 242 allows you to drive it in that option all day without any bad happenings. Essentially the linkages connecting the front and rear aren't completely locked like the 231. It allows them to almost slip to allow for steering and acceleration and what not
