Oh my god. My buddy has a '12 and it irritates me to no damn extent... He only has it for the sport of driving a jeep. His parents don't allow him to go offroad so I can't teach him how to use 4x4

Sounds like a familiar problem.

FINALLY took her out for some very light off-roading. Just some backcountry dirt trails and fire roads. But because of the recent rains, plenty of mud and puddles to splash through! Towards the end of the day, the sky started dumping frozen rain, so the highway got REAL freakin' slick! The slightest tap of the brake set her fishtailing. Fortunately, shifting to 4wd on the fly helped steady her up. I pulled off into a staging area for another off-road trail and enjoyed San Diego's version of a "white Christmas" for awhile. Then I headed back to the city. Finally experienced what I've been hearing about here: when turning in slick conditions, the Jeep kept going straight. Pretty disconcerting! I got onto the highway and kept a very slow speed with about 8 car-lengths between me and the car in front of me. Eventually, we made it down to lower elevations where the frozen rain was just rain and the slickness was gone. More adventure than I've had in the Jeep for awhile! I'm waiting for a nice sunny day so I can install the headlight wiring upgrade, the H4 bulbs, and the Hella 500 light kit I bought.

PS. Going at below 45 mph for most of the day gave me an 18.5 mpg fuel usage! Wish I could get that all the time!

Yeah and I wanna go play in the snow but, it's just not looking promising. I guess I'll have to drive up to TN to find some snow.

I buried mine in the carport. I removed the lattice enclosure, backed it in, replaced enclosure. I almost sold it, had it on craigslist for 1 day, had two visits, removed the ad. It is pushing 160k (159+), still strong, and I just want to hang on to it for awhile.

They don't make these anymore

Sounds like he grounded out the line. No big deal but surely a head scratcher if you don't know to look lol.

What did he do wrong? If you unplug the battery, remove/replace the alt, and reattach battery, you should fine and not burn out relays, right?

He should only have to remove the positive battery lead at the battery and ground that to the negative post prior to starting the job. It's good he posted that, now others will know.
