What area are you in? Here in the portland metro area diesel tech is a booming job BUT if a company lays off they are the first to go typically. Welding is a tough gig the economy hurt it. Dont get me wrong there are fab shops all over. Plus you could get in at fabtech protech or something. I thought about it even got a bunch of certifications in high school. Just didnt think day in and day out welding would be a major job security. *my opinions* just something to think about. Hell I even got a motorcycle mechanics certification but back to the economy ordeal shop I was gonna work for went under...

Also about diesel tech. One of my buddys growing up went into the military and Is a diesel tech. Free schooling and job experience. Just another thought.

Yeah I was thinking maybe coast guard for diesel tech since there is an air station local plus I was in the Coast Guard ROTC at my school.

Yea you would think but id rather be my own boss and make way more money my brother is a diesel tech at a trucking company and dont make half of what I make and he works way more hours then I do.
