At an an idle 750 RPM, assuming the engine is warm enough to be in closed loop mode, you can expect to burn 2.4 gallons per hour. Assuming you're paying $3.60/gal, that's $8.64 an hour. How much are you getting paid?

Most engines use the same amount of fuel when starting as they would if they idled for 10 or 15 seconds. Don't believe me? See here for actual data that demonstrates this: http://www.iwilltry.org/b/projects/h...g-your-engine/

The reason you let diesels idle is so the turbocharger doesn't crack from heat stress.

Try this then: Turn your Jeep off when you get out. Enjoy the savings.

Its true. There has been tests actually done. People driving the same car and first staying idling at red lights and another tank of gas turning off at every red light. it was drastic savings but turning off at every red light saved gas. Like salad said, every car is different. I was next to a BMW 5 series 2 days ago and at every red light, as it turned green his car turned back on. This is a new feature for a reason.

Now can we please get back on topic and make a thread for gas consumption and savings cause this is the stuff that closes threads

This thread is for discussing what you did to your jeep. I used it as my delivery truck, and then filled it up. Thats what we are discussing not mpg, or savings. I don't mind having to spend gas. I would love to save more, but I knew when I took the job it would cost me money to drive. But yes me and him can continue our convo in another thread/pm.

Anyways, I'm bout to order WJ LCAs, NTK o2 Sensors (up and down), engine and transmission mounts. Then a new 2.5" cat converter. All for my 99

Later I'm going to go work on my 91 and see how much I get done, hopefully a lot fingers crossed. Lol
Ok so much for all that. Went to order parts, "insufficient funds", check my activity, some **** in yipsilanti, MI has been spending my cash all day, buffalo wild wings, home depot, scrub-a-hub car wash, ups store, bob evans, sunoco gas station. He ****ed up at the UPs store. The guy I called there suspended his package, I called the PD there to file a police report. I'm pissed.

On top of all that, my girlfriend has to work a 12hr shift so no wrenching time today, ****.

Installed my FST low pro Relocation Brackets. They fought me long and hard. Most if it was dealing with getting the hitch to try and line up so I said **** it and I'll deal with it Saturday morning. The shackle bolt holes weren't perfect so it took so dealing with to make everything work. On the passenger side the shackle bolt into the weld nut in the unibody got cross threaded, but hey it's as good as lock tight lol. About to test drive

Nice. I never understood why people paid so much for atv's when you can get an XJ for $400. Have fun with it.

Shutting a UPS truck off also keeps someone from stealing the truck while you're delivering a package.

Yes, the Neutral Safety Switch controls the reverse lights turning on and off. I just went through this a while back and those things (NSS) are expensive! I would look on ebay or amazon if you want to get a new one. I got a brand new one from carparts.com IIRC for $40 and it has been working tremendously. (Knock on wood)

This is also a very good write up to clean it if that is possible for you.
