It took me three days to remove my leaf springs due to rust. This includes cutting the leaf springs right before the eyes, the bushings, the shackles, and the bolts. Every 15 minutes I'd alternate between PB Blaster/Liquid Wrench/WD-40 Rust Specialist/whatever can was on that side of the Jeep and a MAPP torch. Out a few degrees, in a few degrees. Oil and heat. That was just to get the bolts turning without damaging the welded nuts. The sleeves inside the bushings were the real problem as they completely seized to the bolts. Only way out was with an angle grinder.
Do yourself a favor and get new hardware. All of those fasteners are M14x2.0 120MM, if you don't get flanged heads make sure to get hardened washers. Lock nut for the shackle side.
Of course this assumes you have full leaf replacements lol

Oh yeah, my first on topic in this thread in like a week.
Got my XJ a new oil filter to check out. Going to be cutting open a bunch of my old ones and doing a comparison based on some actual data. Should be fun!

I was thinking about tis today. Ya know, people going to the 1515 oil filter to replace the OE size 1085. Wix/Napa using application driven oil filters and all that. Is the 1515 designed to be run upside down and/or sideways?

The way I understand it, as long as the ADBV and bypass valve are the same pressure rating as what the 4.0 requires (they are) I don't really think it matters. I would imagine the filter being sideways is actually advantageous to using a larger filter as there is no extra force required to pump it all the way back up again, compared to vertical.

Yesterday I changed my oil. Full synthetic and a purolator filter. Today I changed my RF board in my dome light to one I got from the classifieds. It came with a matching remote and it all works perfect. Cheaper to do this than to pay the dealer to program the one I had.

I put new seats in as old ones had seen better days. Also put in lower control arms to help stop the axle sway. Helped some but didn't fix it all. Probably gonna replace all tie rod ends too and steering box. Looking into plasti-dipping my rig, trying it out on my dash and so far it looks great.

Looked this up just for you as I hadn't even thought of it. On IH V8s they install sideways and tipped very slightly down (round end towards rear axle, let's say) so that's got our 51515 covered. Depending on the Perkins and Ford application they may be installed sideways, upside down, or right side up, so there's our 51459.

Believe it or not most of that was watching grainy YouTube videos of tractors, boats, and rust heaps on stands. Those Scout guys know how to party!
Might as well go for the (5)1452. That's the rugged version of the (5)1515 suitable for offroad use

Yesterday I wheeled my Cherokee for the first time. Its basically bone stock, but I took it to Haspin Acres to see what it would do. I have to say...I was impressed and so were a lot of other people. I only got completely stuck once. And I do mean STUCK. I had a blast. Looking forward to lifting it and then seeing what it will do!

Picked up some new 3" coil springs for the front. Was going to check my flexplate but can't because now the alleyway is filled with drunk bums because Denver is a **** hole.
