Mine has a slide lock that holds the wiper arm on to the whatever that sticks out of the cowl, and the blade is held in with a little tab. The arm itself has no mechanism for keeping it propped up so the blade doesn't touch the glass. In fact it only bends up just a couple inches.

Haven't checked out the arms on my '01 yet

Slide lock should hold it in the up position. The arms won't just fall off; they're a PITA to change.

Last Friday got the title switched from my mom to me. Got 10 day tags so I could drive it. Got insurance on it for $17 a month and got it inspected yesterday during lunch and it passed. So my baby is back on the road.

Yeah, as clown said. You use the slide to lock the wiper up. For cleaning window or changing blades. Not as nice as ones that stay up on their own, but they are not bad design.
