Took one side apart to install s10 leaf packs....the write ups don't tell you how hard it actually is to drill through the leaf springs. Lol
I had to reinstall the lift blocks and stock leafs and now have the circle clamps keeping the leaf springs from moving since I cut the stock clips.

use a masonry bit, and keep it cool with come good cutting oil. If you don't have cutting oil motor oil will do the trick just fine. Just keep the bit cool and it will eat the spring steel like butter.

Finally flared and installed the rest of my rear brake line after breaking it only to brake a bleeder screw when I went to bleed the brakes. FML. The original mission was to install new leaf packs almost two weeks ago... IT NEVER ENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read that those don't work to well either. Worse part is I can't get that much weight on the leaf with it still attached either. I sprayed oil on the bit several times.
I'm going to buy some carbide bits or just take the leafs off and bring them to a suspension shop.
I may try the masonry bit. Did you do the same s10 bastard pack process? Tempered steel suuuucks. I spent 30 minutes drilling and got no where.

i haven't drilled a leaf spring, but I know someone on here that did his s10 springs with a masonry bit, dukie456 actually recommended it.

Also, use a drill press if you can, makes it easier for sure, and keep the rpms LOW, slow and steady wins the race. Get that bit spinning fast, and your going to overheat. Patience pays off here.

what you said. If you don't have a drill press put your drill on its lowest speed

Don't just spray a couple of times. Use a good cutting oil and keep drizzling it on as you cut, get someone to apply the oil while you drill if need be. The oil isn't just to make cutting easier, it's also for keeping things cool. Do everything you can to keep the heat down. Slow speed, lots of oil, and as stable as possible are your best bet. Don't put a ton of downward force on it either, let the bit do the work.

Started it on the first crank. No more three turns before she runs.

Now I have to put it the rest of the way back together.
