I had the exact same problem. My short was coming from that light just underneath the steering column. Maybe you have the same problem? Easy enough to check without tearing anything apart. Good luck!

well today I vaccuumed, shampooed and cleaned the windows!
after that I worked on my stalling issues. Cleaned the throttle body, IAC, and TPS and still rough idling... after a couple of hours, I realized I never adjusted the TPS!!!! runs like a champ again!!!
Starting the change my mind about selling it for the cash...
drove it around the block to make sure everything works, made a list of a few more things that i might be able to fix before either i sell it or keep it! now its time to sit back relax and have a cold one!!!
She maybe 21 years old like her owner but shes gonna out live any of these plastic so called hybrid trucks!!! Real trucks use heavy duty METAL!
If I keep her shes gonna be sitting on 33s I got laying around in my garage!

just got back from George Washington National Park. it was closed, because some mud brains brought their offroad rigs on a license and insurance mandatory trails and ruined them.
anyway, we went through other trails on Blue Ridge Parkway and found a way to some of the trails.
what surprised me most is that, i was sure that my '04 dakota was gonna do better than my '99 XJ, but the 'ol girl proved me wrong. it did just as good as my dakota and when ground clearance was an issue, it put my dakota to shame. my buddy drove my dakota.
