I am planning on doing mine this weekend and will be doing the prep work today and tomorrow. I have been putting this off since i picked up my XJ late in the summer, but I have done almost everything else that needed to be done so the flexplate is finally going to get done. I bought the flexplate the week after i got the Jeep home, so it has been sitting in the box for over 3 months now

Are either of you certain its cracked? Imagine your surprise after a long full day of wrenching when you cant find a crack.
Trust me, its not a good feeling.

Tranny Removal
^ Be sure and use a transmission jack! Do not try removing or installing it onto your chest! The transfer case can be lowered onto plywood on your chest (80 lbs) but it's still potentially dangerous.

Yeah what he said, though the chicks dig my delicious pecs I've gained from benching the tcase. The tcase is heavy, be very careful. I get chills thinking about dropping it and crushing my ribcage. Do not attempt to remove the transmission without a proper transmission jack, or transmission adaptor for a floor jack, transmissions are very hard to balance and can easily off the jack and break an arm or leg if it falls on you. Happy wrenching!

I always use a piece of plywood on my chest, it can be a rib/life saver. 5/8" x 15" x 24".

Almost dropped my case on myself trying to reinstall by myself. I didn't have a trans jack but used a floor jack as a second arm. It wasn't very secure on there. It slipped once and dropped came close to crushing my shoulder. (Crushing might be an overstatement but damned if it wouldn't have hurt)

I am sure that mine is cracked, I have already seen one crack at a bolt hole. All the other bolt holes are ovals so it needs to be replaced even if it wasn't cracked. I already have a transmission jack adapter for my floor jack and everything else I need other than a second set of hands
I changed the transmission in a 1980 Camaro using my chest as a transmission jack. I swore I would never do that again. So far I have kept that oath for 25 years and have no plans of breaking it. Today before I got rained out I went and backed off the cross member bolts and sprayed all the other nuts and bolts with some PB Blaster. I will do that a few more times before I start the job.

Folded up both the front and rear carpet and stuffed it into a plastic bin, then added 5 bottles of black liquid dye, and 3 boxes of powder black dye. I plan to remove it in 48 hours.

"Welded" on my jks miniskids to my lca brackets. I quote welds because they look awful haha but I hit them with my hammer a good couple times and they didn't move so we'll see.

Big day for Blue today. After 6+ months of daily driving & improving/fixing the jeep that sat for 6 years we tested the new shoes after work, 75mph smooth & straight, runnin strong, Been a LONG time since this girl has been there. Ready to head to MouseTown this weekend to visit family. full size (30x9.5) spare fit in the factory mount, it was close but it fit 1992 @ 109,000miles time for some fun.
