I tossed that decision around when I was putting the Heep back together. It would have been a good idea to put a new manifold in at the time and be done with it, but I didn't want to spend the money on a new manifold in case the engine decided to blow itself to pieces. My nephew offered to weld it for me so I went with that.

In all seriousness, I could get a lot more done during the week if I had garage space...planning on cleaning it out early this weekend so I can have space to work during the week, but work may make that an issue...have had weekend work 3 weeks in a row, leaving only Sunday to wrench, and you can only get so much done. I'd rather wrench than clean the garage on my one day off, ya know? It would be nice to come home from work and spend some time in the garage, with the door shut, and be able to move around and work, LOL

i have the same problem, this is a very big time of year for me im lucky to be getting the one day off, and im working 12+ hours a day to boot, i have had to put off doing my water pump (which i need t do really bad) for 3 weeks ow cause of bad wheather on my only day off, it sucks. but on the bright side after mid january ill have weekends off again, and a beard and plenty of time to wrench and spend some money i saved from halloween/christmas load ins

Lol no. DriveClean is a cakewalk for OBD-II dude. My XJ passed with a hole in the exhaust. On the drive there I kept watching my scanner's graph for O2 sensor B1S2 and it was pretty obvious. My Golf passed and when I got it home I discovered that the cat had been removed. If you have no CEL and I/M monitors pass a readiness check you'll be fine at most shops, who don't even bother with visual anymore. It's quite the scam.

As far as the safety spec goes a lot of shops apparently have been going the "hands off" route lately. So no more checking the crusty brake lines to see just how crusty they are. Also a lot of states have more regulations than we do, particularly concerning forward lighting and mud flaps.

I have been chasing my tail on a P1694, and an occasional P0700 that does trigger the CEL. With the help of CCKen we have been able to pretty much pin it on the TCM's shoulders and will be replacing that later this week or early next.

The place near me that does the etest, does do the visual inspection. I have brought 3 cars in to them, my Stealth, my mothers old car when she gave it to my brother, and a friends car. Two were OBD2 and the guy did his job great. The Stealth is OBD1 and needed the sniffer test. When I told him it has an issue with low oil pressure at idle, could just be the flaky factory gauge, he kept it at the upper range of the test.

The place I go for the safety actually check the vehicle over, and I would rather that since it will be me who is mainly at risk when driving it.

That's good. The quality part, I mean. Since the switch to OBD-II I've seen a number of shops have a "no pass no pay" policy or just don't really care. It's absolutely obscene that TCU codes will derail a so-called "emissions test".

I have most of the intake/exhaust manifold off, but this wind and the cold are slowing me down despite the amount of coffee I have drank already to warm up Also you think i would have checked where I was parked before I started. There is a big chunk of ice right at the front drivers side corner, right where I need to stand for most of this. 7 more bolts, two of which are band new, and I have the manifolds off With better light and things out of the way the crack does look like it is weldable by me with my little 120V mig welder. definitely going to have to weld indoors because there is way too much wind to even think about trying it outside, that would just be a waste of gas and wire

OK time to go back out and roll underneath and get those two new bolts undone

Got the manifolds off without breaking a single bolts or studs, and I am positive I can weld it back up no problem.

Well I would do the work for free, but the travel charge would be insane since it is an international trip I was actually amazed at how easy it came apart considering how rusty the bolts and nuts looked. I am not looking forward to putting it back together once I do the welding and the gasket comes in. I thought I would be fighting with it for a day or two, and then have to extract a broken bolt or two so I told the guys at Napa not to get it in till Friday

changed my dana 44 diff gasket and oil because it was leaking and I thought it had water in it. I also wanted to check the lock-rite that was in it from the PO, the one in the front axle was out of spec, so I figured the rear was a similar case. WRONG



I am pleasantly surprised. With the 4.56 gearing and ten industries chromos this thing should last me a while with 33's
