I know they are highly regarded for their timing belts in the 3000GT/Stealth world.

I just asked about the Gates because that is what is readily available locally for me. I was pretty sure the gates would be good because it is the go to timing belt for the 3S crowd, but some times a company can make one product that is outstanding but another product in the line could be true garbage.

I can't remember what timing belt I have on my Stealth, because I didn't install it, but I am coming up on the next 60K service interval and I have a Gates waiting in the wings. Gates Timing belts for a 6G72 DOHC engine are expensive BTW, just shy of $200 with shipping. A full 60K tune up for a 3S is roughly $500 in parts. When I hear people complain about the cost of running a Cherokee I giggle. Owning a 3000GT or Stealth is almost as expensive as some European exotic car I love my Stealth so I have to put the money out to keep it running

Gates is overall a great product but with how tight 4.0L belts need to be, Gatorback is simply the most reliable. Personally I think they're better than using a conventional "straight ribbed" belt because you don't have to tighten them as much to make the squealing stop. People always go on about how tight they need to be... I didn't think I tightened really as much as people claim. IMHO the bearings might last longer as a result of less tension.

PartSource carries them but the price is not very friendly. Like most things there lol
