I fabbed up a bracket that would raise the brake line off the rear axle and slightly forward. Did this to gain some brake line length that was lost after the lift.
Why not just get the longer brake line?
Simple--- State inspection is this month and I do not need any broken metal brake lines. Anyone that has ever changed a wheel cylinder knows this feeling.
Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. Solid 2"x3"x1" block. Drilled and tapped a 3/8 NC thread at top. And a 1/2" hole in bottom.
Bracket itself looks like a flattened out "Z" ---\\___ I gave both mounting surfaces a radius to mimic the axle housing. This way both the bracket and the brake line sit flush. Painted black and bolted to axle using the original bolt with the breather orifice in it.
Was too dark to snap any pics...there's always tomorrow

Actually got some work done today.
Installed my new rear brake drums.
Also here is that pic of the brakeline bracket I fabbed up.
IF you have no idea what I am referring to...its the black piece right below the rear snubber in photo
Not too bad...and this "SHOULD" pass state inspection. No reason it shouldn't...heck its solid steel.

Put the interior back in, changed the trans fluid (very milky ), cleaned off most of the mud, and started it up, just to hear the sound of death coming from the alternator. That's gonna get ordered tomorrow, prolly put in on sat.
That's why

We have a couple of automotive electrical shops that will put bearings in and generally clean up an altenator/starter or even an older generator for much cheaper than a new/rebuilt one. You might check it out. If you have already ordered the new alt then keep your old one and have it done at one of those shops so you have a spare for your next mudhole.

Okay.
This MAY not fit here under the What did you do to your XJ today...but it may.
Quick rundown.
Left for work early this morning about 4am. I live in basic rural area (not for long). Went 1/4mi to the big S-turn on my commute.
Corner of the eye caught something off the side of the road coming out.
4-POINTER!!! No stopping. Did swerve. But there was no avoiding it.
BAM! On the passenger's side. No glass--thats good.
Pulled over and got out. Maglite in hand.
OH MAN!....
Cosmetic? Not in the daylight. The window seal (along bottom of window) is pulled away about 1/8". The divider between the movable glass and stationary glass is bent right in the middle...right where the fur is hanging out.
And to top it off... I can't open it from the outside.
I foresee J/Y run and a new door in my near future
