Changed the tranny fluid(manual)also noticed the fuel filter had never been changed. It still had undercoating on it. Poured it out backwards in to a pop bottle. 1/4 inch fine black dirt and 1 inch of water. 128,000 miles I can't believe nobody changed it. It sure would have froze up with all that water.

Test-mounted the shell of my overhead console and brackets, I'm really liking it already. Thinking about running accessory switches there rather than the dash, but we'll see.
I'm looking around for a non-hardening type of foam insulation to shoot between the roof panel and support ribs since the factory adhesive has separated probably long ago. Don't want the expansion and hardness of regular Great Stuff, and needs some adhesive properties as well. Bought a can of Daptex Plus multipurpose, sprayed some on a piece of cardboard to let sit & cure overnight and see what it looks like in the morning. If anyone has any other suggestions, they are welcomed.
I'm pretty sure Eastwood might have something... just wondering if anyone's found a more practical (cheaper) solution.
Edit: Daptex is a no-go... pulls apart way too easily.

You just MAY have to do ALL of your U joints. I changed all 8 in my 97 GCL and no more wobble at 40MPH. Boring job but do it and your wobble will go away like magic. I had changed everything under the front end trying to get rid of it i.e. tie rods, etc and nothing worked until I tackled the U joints. Most were really bad but didn't move around when still on the car but once they were welded out you could see that the bearings were all gone or shot. If you hate the death wobble would suggest the u joints. Look at a diagram and you will see that there are 8 spaced thoughout the underside. I changed every single one.

Let's see what did I do to my 97 XL today actually Monday? I sold her down the river to a really nice easy going guy. After spending a small fortune on sealer trying to seal up a leaking tailgate my son finally urged me to sell her. Hated to see her go as she was always quirkey with starting up. Never got a CSP or a new PCM but just lived with the starting problem. I dumped a bunch of bucks into her since Aug 2014. I did find one thing that will help out all you Jeepsters. It's a sealer called
ATP AT-205 Re-Seal Stops Leaks, 8 Ounce Bottle
I used it in the tranny a few weeks back and it went into 4WD when before it was jammed. You can use this in the engine which I did and it did seal up an oil leak I had. You can use it in the power steering to stop leaks but DO NOT USE IN BRAKE LINES.
I had used the Lucas stuff and still had leaks and tranny problems. You can't buy this locally only online thru Ebay or Amazon. There are 108 pages of reviews on Amazon. Ebay is cheaper with free shipping. I even used it in my Honda Civic on an oil leak and it worked zippity bang. Figured since this is my last post here probably forever or until I get bored and come back I might as well share this with you. It's around $11 a bottle but WELL WORTH IT in the long run.
I hated to dump my problem child but I kinda hated having to stop at every other gas station and getting 13MPG around town. Now I get 30MPG in my civic around town. Duh shuda done this a long time ago but I am a died in the wool Jeep driver.... Bye all for now. Have a safe winter in the snow!! I'm going to stay home when it snows now.

One more tip I'd like to share with you. Recently Marathon gasoline stations and Bell Stores in Ohio were purchased by someone who apparently is greedy. The gasoline is now watered down big time with WATER. Yup. It ruined my mower and 2 mowers of a friend. And it made his Ranger PU run like crap until he ran it out. I only buy Gulf gasoline now as it's real gasoline and not watered down. I have no idea what they did to the Marathon gas. It did not ruin my 97XL though as I didn't use that much. So buyer beware this winter when getting gasoline for your jeep. WalMart was all out of SeaFoam so that tells you the problem was epidemic here. Wonder how many cars here are running crappy?

To re-glue roof supports to roof panel, I used 'urethane adhesive sealant' for windshields. Goes in a caulking gun. Worked well.

I am looking for the same kind of thing, I am building a trailer out of the back of a 4-dr. XJ and had to fix the quarter panel, the manufacturer used that sort of stuff I imagine to fill areas to keep moister out and support the body contour. I was thinking about checking out what the body and paint supply store has. Please let me know what you find.

Finally got time in my buddy's shop to ACTUALLY fix my trackbar bracket. He machined a large washer that got welded to the face of the bracket, and made a tab that the nut got welded into. Steering is so tight and sensitive now.
I also pulled the swaybar bracket studs and replaced them with removable pins. Those studs are incredibly stubborn....
Then we got to the fun part. I brought my old XJ drivers seat with to have him weld the frame, and we decided to go a step further. The seat is now on a frame that inserts to the receiver hitch, with a hinge and latch so I can tip it forward to get stuff out of the hatch. I plan on using it as a fishing chair or tailgating seat.
