Doesn't spray paint freeze and then flake off below freezing? Duck tape sounds messy for when I do decide to paint/finish it...lol

Serious answer, drive the 40 miles and get it powder coated. Do the job right the first time and don't worry about it again.

Looks like it's in a garage ???
Isn't it warm enough to spray paint it there? , got a heater, or some propane?

My steering wheel is way off - PO did ...?
the steering wheel-column and the bolt at the steering box ??? plz

I tried to unbolt the steering shaft from the steering gear box but there isn't enough room to pull it off the spindle.
can I just loosen up ... maybe the bolts holding the column to the dash framework? ( I tried the main bolts ... started the other 4 )

OR ... do I have to actually Take Off the Steering box just to turn the wheel straight?

PS , No I can NOT adjust the steering linkage - I just, finally, got it to track straight - with equal turns left and right! (nice) but the steering wheel is now 3/4 upside-down. and the blinker won't stay on going straight :-(

Indeed. Highly unlikely that the steering box or shaft suddenly jumped.
