(also that filter is seriously tiny)
one of his oldest vids...lol and it's more about surface area. Probably good enough for a 4.0L

Where do I find a mushroom snorkel cap? Is there an army surplus for that sort of thing?
search military air intake on ebay:

you could get one like: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MILITARY-M93...FWLmpd&vxp=mtr

Went out jeepin Corall Canyon tonight, all good tell one of the tubes coming out of tank fuel pump came loose!!! Needless to say just filled the tank... got her home and ran a jumper wire, to pump enough fuel into gas can so the leak would stop praying no sparks would end my days! QUESTION: Can those tubes be tightened up or is sending unit shot????? Appreciate any info.....

The "mushroom" apparatus can be built out of PVC too, with a massive end cap. There's a thread out there where someone did this on a TJ and put it in the cowl.

I've seen that type of filter in person. They're junk, like the Spectre. What they lack in surface area (which is considerable) they make up for in porosity. They let a large amount of dust through, like a K&N.

A pre-filter should also be mandatory with those things. I've got a lovely pic saved where one of those got so clogged with sand it collapsed and started to get sucked down the intake.

I was definitely thinking of doing something like this, but with a prefilter more near the intake end...somehow.

That would be quite the picture!

Edit: Does anyone else make in-line filters?

Spectre is owned by K&N now so basically that's what you're getting when you order one. I could see sand being an issue maybe. But if you clean you air filter out after wheeling trips, line you should, I think it's plenty safe. Neglect it and you're screwed. Like most things.

I was considering one of the smaller air cleaners from like edelbrock or something. The ones for like a small carb. They make a 7" diameter cleaner with a 3" inlet. That would essentially be a pre filter setup.

Took it to the shop to get my AC looked at. they said since the AC compressor blew up theres probably metal shavings throughout the system including the new compressor i had put in. Said that they will likely have to replace everything aka im not getting it done because i dont have a million dollars

That's typical with compressor failure unfortunately.

Parts that definitely would need to be replaced (aside from the compressor) are condenser (assuming R134a parallel-flow type), expansion valve, and drier/accumulator. Everything else can be flushed out. Not too expensive really if you can do the work yourself but pretty big $$$ to have a shop take care of it.

I would just get a new compressor, and I forget what else it has (expansion block, receiver/dryer, or oriafice tube), then flush the crap out of the condenser and evap core, reassemble and charge it and be done.

Made some progress on my extended frame tie-ins for the rear bumper. 3/16th angle welded to 3/16th flat bar. Plan is to drill into the back of the bumper and weld in the 1/2" flange nuts I picked up, then bolt it to the tie-in bracket and bottom of frame rail.

New water pump and thermostat housing. Apparently the old water pump was responsible for the "growling" noise I was blaming on a potentially slack timing chain.

Took my XJ on a camping trip this weekend. To a lake just out of Steamboat Springs (Pearl Lake State Park). Played tetris before and after the trip. Pretty pleased with the how well it took the mountain passes.

I can't wait till I get my camper done so that we will have all the gear set-up and ready to go, so that I won't have to spend half the day packing for a weekend camping trip.
