I was out with my gf when it happened. I thought it was hilarious because I couldnt shut it off, her, not so much. Weirdest thing to reset it. Unhook the battery cables, turn the switch on for like 30 secs, turn headlights on for ten secs, then hook battery back up. I looked it up and thought it was stupid, but I had been there for almost two hours and was and hour 45 mins from home so I thought, what can it hurt? Sure enough, it worked.

Nothing like having your rear tire pass you on the left! Only damage assessed so far is the studs on the wheel spacer were tweaked in just enough not to remount. The inside of the rim was chewed up a little but I can live with it. Now I need to replace the studs and see what the extent of the damage was on the drum.

THEN.... After I removed the wheel spacer I remounted the wheel and went to start it back up and... Battery was dead!!!! Couldn't get it to jump off so I pushed it 1/2 a block out of the main street into a parking lot so I could continue working on it safely.
Dude, your wheel flew off and the Jeep rode on the drum. The drum is toast. Inspect the axle shaft, it might need replacement. Nothing else can be trusted.

Always check when doing any work on the wheels.

yeah, I plan on checking on the drum this afternoon. I kind of felt it coming so my speed was mabey 15-20 mph when it finally hit pavement. Plus I brought it to a stop pretty fast, and it rode in the inside of the rim for a few feet while I was slowing down, but your prob right. I was able to drive it home last night with no problems, as well as to work this morn.

I'm beginning to think tampering was involved. Thinking back I can't remember when the last time I had the wheels off and I always use my torque stick. I did check all the other tires and they all were tight, so idk!

well, uh.... finally had the original fuel pump take a poop on me driving to work. She died on the side of the highway (left shoulder). Simply went to pass a crazy lady in front of me but as soon as I pushed that throttle down and the ol 4.0 reached for a better passing gear, she started sputtering and popping. Butthole puckered as I tried to get out of the hammer lane and into the shoulder during rush hour morning traffic. I couldn't even be mad. Damn XJ has been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. First time it actually broke down. I've honestly been waiting for the fuel pump to quit so I can replace the whole unit. Unfortunately it was 30 miles from home lol. That was an expensive tow

lol... or "Billy has a good start to a nice collection"

Yeah it was gone too soon, for sure. Ironically, the guy I bought it from found it at the pawn shop I sold it to. So he bought it and has it now. Said if I ever want it back, hand him 300 bucks. I have an envelope with about 150 in it now

Yup... you'll have even more if you cut the pinch seam and beat it flat.

Also finally installed some hood shocks ($Free old hatch struts, $8 for brackets, $5 for the rivet gun + rivets from HF). Threw some stickers on them for more horsepower.

Hopefully the heat from the engine kills them a bit - they are SUPER strong right now even though they barely held up the hatch

lol... guess you needed some that wouldn't hold it up AT ALL!

She's got about 73K miles on her. It was more of a "when" not an "if" for the fuel pump buying the farm. I'd say for a 98 xj, it surpassed its service life.

So the YJ exhaust downpipe has a tab that goes into the trans mount. IIRC, the XJ is similar. Well, that tab tore a hole in the downpipe (again) because Walker uses thin gauge metal. This is the third downpipe since I've owned it, so I'm switching to a TJ exhaust setup.

Instead of the downpipe crossing between the block and the bellhousing, the TJ piece wraps around the front of the oil pan. This keeps the pipe up higher and tucked away, and it also eliminates the YJ's setup which places significant stress on that welded tab.

But Advance doesn't have it in stock, despite their claims, so I'll be picking it up tomorrow morning.
