That's true for XJs but he's apparently got a ZJ so all bets are off.

Yes, its a ZJ. It has airbags, dont know if it is due to being a ZJ or a limited but it does.

A buddy of mine gives me a hard time about the front hitch receiver I put on my XJ. "What are you too lazy to back up a trailer or something?!" he likes to say. No, I put it on for a recovery point and with the hopes of one day having a hitch-mounted winch.

With that said, it sure did come in handy manuevering my bbq smoker through the narrow opening between the house and garage to get it into the backyard...

Started preparing parts for the rear disc conversion on my '99 XJ. At this point I've got everything needed except for rear axle lube. (From what I've read on the forum here the preferred type is 80W-90 synthetic.)

I ordered the kit from Big David which saves a lot of time and hassle. The parts came in real nice shape, just dusty and a little surface rust. These southern boneyard parts are much nicer than anything I'd be likely to find here in the rust belt.

Of course as we all know, parts work better when they look good! So I took a wire wheel and some solvent to clean up the backing plates, and sprayed them with "Zero-Rust," a product that is similar to POR-15 and comes in a spray can...

The finished product, before installing new parking brake shoes and hardware...

I realize some material will need to be ground off the center hole to fit the XJ rear axle. Will touch up as needed.

Also I made the executive decision (which I may wind up regretting) to install the used calipers that came with Big David's kit. They don't leak, are not seized up, and I had no problem breaking free the bleeders and hose bolts. So given the problems I've had with some rebuilt calipers I'll see how it goes with these. I gave them a little cleanup as well, so they should be OK, right?

I should be able to start the conversion later in the week, weather and work permitting. You young guys can probably pull it off in an afternoon but I expect it'll take me a few days.

Be careful, you'll damage your hearing.

Today I checked my oil and coolant levels which are still perfect after this head swap BS. Also removed the hitch and snapped every bolt on it in preparation for my ZJ gas tank skid plate. Finally installed a used electric fan because mine has been dead for over a year.

Sir, are you indicating that the back of that truck is the hidden portal to the Bifrost? 'Cause if so, you're alright
